UN Condemns Syria as Violence Rages On

The UN Security Council condemned on Wednesday the Syrian government for its deadly crackdown on anti-regime protesters. The condemnation came after months of difficulties in achieving an agreement between the members.

The council said in a statement it “condemns the widespread violations of human rights and the use of force against civilians by the Syrian authorities.

“The Security Council expresses its grave concern at the deteriorating situation in Syria, and expresses profound regret at the death of many hundreds of people. The Security Council calls for an immediate end to all violence and urges all sides to act with utmost restraint, and to refrain from reprisals, including attacks against state institutions.”

The statement said that those responsible for the violence should be held accountable.

The BBC reported that the statement was less than what the European states on the council would have liked, but is more than might have been expected given the strong opposition to saying anything on Syria from members such as Russia, China, and India.

Lebanon did not block adoption of the statement but disassociated itself from the text after it was adopted, the BBC said. .....

The Security Council is condemning something! Makes me wonder who those protesters really are now. Hmmmm...

Hopefully the protesters will tell the UN "we don't need your stinking condemnation"

What's next a Nobel Peace Prize for the leader of the protesters?

Now, relax. Don’t get suspicious yet. If the “condemnation” had some actual teeth, I’d be suspicious, but as it is, they are doing absolutely nothing. So the protesters might still be genuine.

I’m sure that Assad and his killers are quaking in their burquas. First Hillary threatens them with, whatever.
Then Obama says something, whatever.
Now the UN says something, whatever.

I’m sure that Assad is listening to their every word, and then ignoring it like any good dictator would.

Yep, Hillary, Obama, Kerry, right on the job.

Hey schmucks, the Arab Spring is being destroyed in Egypt, Iran, Libya and Syria and all you can say is “Bad boys.”

After seeing what is happening to Mubarak, Assad will never step down or stop crushing the opposition.

The UN is sending a condemnation and a grave concern in response to Syria’s soldiers and tanks. We’ll see how much difference that makes. The libs will learn nothing - they’ll watch for results and then puzzle over the “surprising” and “unexpected” lack of Syrian government interest in their strongly worded letters. I hope the dying protestors will be grateful; this is as close as most of the far left gets to meaningful action (the exception being communists who might send their own tanks but only to replace one tyrant with another).

If there was a threat of attacking citizens and they had oil and gold, NATO would be on them like stink on a skunk. But for NATO and the UN, no oil no glory. Are is that no oil for food money to steal.

Thanks Eleutheria5.
The United States and Russia had harsh words for embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday, a day after the UN Security Council condemned his deadly crackdown on anti-regime demonstrators.
