Romney makes his case to party establishment

TAMPA -- Mitt Romney has dispatched three senior campaign officials to hold strategy briefings with Republican National Committee members at the RNC’s summer meeting here, as Romney tries to consolidate the party establishment around his 2012 candidacy.

No other Republican presidential candidate has a presence at the four-day meeting, according to multiple RNC members. Romney’s team arrived in Tampa -- which will host the 2012 Republican National Convention -- to present the case for his candidacy to the RNC’s 168 state party chairmen and other committee members, the vast majority of whom are unaligned in the presidential contest.

Romney’s deputy campaign manager, political director and communications director will outline Romney’s strategy in the early voting states, the campaign’s fall timetable, and provide a briefing on the status of the race at a closed-door meeting here Friday.

[...]

The campaign also will give RNC members a packet featuring positive press clippings and a list of endorsements Romney has received in various states — an apparent effort to show that many in the GOP hierarchy are consolidating around Romney.

All politicians are liars. Romney is a politician’s politician.

the GOP hierarchy are consolidating around Romney.

Then they can all go live with Romney when they're all thrown out on their asses.

He might want to court the actual voters.

I keep telling the various Repub orgn. to quit calling because I am disgusted with Old Establishmenters and will send direct to conservative candidates.

I don't know if anybody still uses the line 'taking coal to Newcastle'. It means selling ice cubes to Eskimos.

Romney makes his case to the party establishment. He still needs to do that? Really. Romney's been "Where's Waldo for 2 and a half years. I don't know, who these people are who pick Romney.

Looks like the RINO-led GOP will be circling its wagons around RINO Romney.

I guess returning control of the GOP to conservatives will depend on the state GOP organizations. Anybody have a handle on that?

IMHO Tea Party candidates will be running as Conservative Party candidates. Or they can form their own political entity. Anybody know how the clock works for establishing a political party in time to be included in the ballot?

Yes. He has these meetings, and none of the others do?

The Party nomenklatura have their candidate.

The 2012 primaries will be every bit a vicious and vital for us to win as the general election.

Romney can talk to the RNC until he’s blue in the face. The Middle America electorate in general, and the TEA Party in particular, will be choosing the GOP candidate this time around, and NOT the RNC.

You mean he had to make a case? I thought he was the establishment anointed candidate.

I mean really, we the people think we have a say in this silly nomination process. The only thing we get is the shaft and the bill for it all...

Maybe these losers can channel the ghost of Gerald Ford.

They have had the power to do pretty much what they want, and so far we have had to live with it. They were successful in defending Gerry against Ronald Reagan as you may recall. Same could be said about the anointing of GW.
