Ukraine needs another decade or two to sort things out.

Keep in mind that everyone was a commie until 1991+/-. There was no rule of law.

Pro West is a good start for anyone. She cut a deal with Rooskies on gas. Heck, everyone in Europe cuts a deal with them. They have all the gas. Look at Merkel.

You are right. Yulia Timoshenko has been a thorn in the side of the pro-Russian element in Ukraine for quite a while.

She is not straight, there is some issue with her ownership of a telephone company, but compared to Yanukovitch, who is a convicted criminal she is a saint.

Sorting out contract disputes between "Naftogaz" (Ukraine) and "Gazprom" (Russia) is tough work. Russia accused Ukraine of stealing gas from their pipelines and threatened to cut them off. Yulia moved budget money from another use to settle the claims and keep Ukraine in natural gas.Pretty thin soup for a corruption trial, but politics is coloring all of this.
