Why Prosecutors quit
Virginia Gazette ^ | 8 Aug 2011 | Nancy Bolash

Newspapers covered the past Virginia State Bar investigation of York County-Poquoson's chief prosecutor Eileen Addison. They also have reported on the upcoming Virginia State Bar hearing against Addison. What they haven’t covered is that two-thirds of her assistant prosecutors resigned in a four-month timeframe when the underlying allegations of these two hearings were brought forth.

I am one of those assistant commonwealth attorneys. When the four of us resigned, we took more than 50 years of dedicated and talented prosecutorial experience away from York-Poquoson to other prosecutors offices. Two of us were hired immediately by Williamsburg-James City, one by Newport News and one by Hampton, where the latter was joined by another former York-Poquoson prosecutor who did not want to return to an office led by Addison.

Why? Because the office had been led in the wrong direction and all of us were powerless to lead it down the right path or to make the community aware of what was going on.

That is until now. In April, Benjamin Hahn, the deputy commonwealth attorney, resigned becoming the fifth of the original six prosecutors to leave the office. He did so to run against Addison as her term of office draws to a close. He has vowed to restore integrity to the office, and after working closely with him for many years, I know he will. He is an outstanding prosecutor, a leader who has the respect of the legal community, and a man who knows justice is doing the right thing for all citizens.

On Aug. 23, Hahn is running against Addison in a primary election for the Republican nomination. The winner likely will be the next head prosecutor elected in November. York-Poquoson deserves a prosecutor beyond reproach. Make that happen by voting for Hahn.

If you live in York County Virginia, please vote in the Republican Primary on 23 Aug and vote FOR Hahn.

The person he's running against is the incumbant and she is so bad if she gets the nomination I will gladly vote for any democrat running against her--that's how bad she is. If you may be out of town on the 23rd and can't vote that day, you can go to 224 Ballard St and vote at teh registrar M-F. They are open until 5pm. Don't delay and vote our current prosecutor out of office.

I know someone who has been impacted by Addison’s corruption. I never knew about it until I saw it first hand, and once I found out what kind of crap this prosecutor pulls along with her entire office I was sick to my stomach and still am everytime I think about it. I can guarantee you she has hid evidence and coached witnesses to secure a conviction against an innocent person.

It’s prosecutors like her that make people hate the justice system and make it anything but justice. Are you familiar with her shenanigans. And keep in mind...the cases you hear about are only the ones where she got caught. There are many more where she got away with it. For her it’s not about justice, but about getting a conviction even if the other prosecutors think the person is innocent and has the proof that will help exonerate the person.

Those in the know, know she is corrupt.

When I say her entire office. I’m calling out those that remained behind for whatever reason. Some are just as corrupt or more so, and others just want to keep their cushy job. Regardless though in the justice system if they are turning a blind eye to corruption and allowing innocent people to go to prison then they are just as guilty.

When you have 4 prosecutors leave an office to get away from the corruption and get a challenge from your own party then you know it’s bad.

I emplore everyone to vote the scum out of office—Vote for Hahn in the Primary.

Wow, this is sad.

It reminds me of a proecutor in PG County, Maryland, years ago. What was his name?

Oh, yes, Jack Johnson.

Haven't been by there lately. How's he doing these days?

[snicker] Have they sentenced him for his bribery schemes yet?

One can only hope in the case of this Addison character, if what you are saying is true, that her chickens will come home to roost.

In Bay COunty FL my daughter’s purse was stolen a few years ago. She stopped all the checks in her checkbook but the woman wrote all of her blank checks in all the WinnDixies in the county. The thief was caught, has a rap sheet several pages long and was released in 30 minutes. The prosecutor went after my daughter for not honoring the stolen checks. The sheriff at the time was a distant cousin to my wife and the mayor was an old friend of her father’s so things got delayed and delayed until the prosecutor lost the next election and it all went away along with a whole slew of other malicious prosecutions that were in the works. I suppose prosecutors are needed but really corrupt ones keep showing up in the news and then this guy. It seems it takes a certain sort of person to be a prosecutor or maybe a certain sort of person is drawn to the job.
