Reverse it. If a gang of white thugs were beating up on black fair goers, would we have gotten the same decision? If some of the white fair goers would have pulled out firearms and gunned down the black thugs, would they be charged with hate crimes?
Are black on white attacks ever considered hate crimes? Are white on black attacks ever not considered hate crimes?
…a vet is accused of using the n word and may lose his GI Bill and go to jail.
They are going to be tried for a "Hate Crime" as the black guy was distressed by their verbal assault, and serve up to three years in prison, or some other outrageous amount of time on parole, but these Sheriffs find no evidence that the blacks that actually did assault whites at the fair should be considered "Hate Crime".
It's past time to stop, and put this race BS straight. This sort of crap is feeding the race/class wars for the benefit of the Leftists that encourage the practice.
“Hate crime” law is bad law. Assault is assault. Murder is murder. Get rid of all “hate crime” law.

I’m reminded of a passage from a Joseph Wambaugh novel.
Evidence of a crime is discovered by neighbors. They all agree: “Kids must have done this.” “Yeah, kids.”
In reality, it wasn’t kids. But they willfully turned a blind eye because the alternative was too horrible to contemplate.
The cops are doing the same and pretending there wasn’t a clear motive here.
