[But that’s ok, because tax increases would just be the final nail in the coffin of the economy and completely doom Obama]

And the GOP party’s chance of maintaining the House and winning the Senate. I won’t even vote for my own GOP Congresswoman, even if she votes against it. Because we all know that what goes on behind close doors is that they find the votes they need to pass unpopular legislation and then give the most vulnerable permission to vote no. The gig is up. Any tax increases, I will never vote GOP again!

I probably would have said the same thing, and then fight like crazy to cut the budget w/o any tax increases. But then, I guess politically that makes too much sense.

EXACTLY.

THANK YOU for pointing out what I’ve been hammering on my congresswoman for weeks. If the Democrats want tax proposals, GIVE THEM TAX PROPOSALS.

To your list, I would add the following:

1. Remove the deduction for “financial advisors and investing expenses.” This will hit the hedge fund and private capital industry quite nicely, most of whom vote DNC.

2. Tax HFT operations.

3. Tax bespoke derivative instruments - make this one nice and high, like 50% or more. I’d prefer it if these were taxed out of existence.

4. Remove the tax-exemption on any 501(c)(3) organization that makes any pitch to their members to lobby Congress for anything. Whammo, the environmental movement is shut down.

5. Also going after the greens, make it law that those who sue the federal land management agencies over “environmental policies” cannot have their legal costs reimbursed. This was a EO from Clinton, and it has turned environmental lawsuits into a tidy cash cow for the greenies.

6. Jack up the AMT. It predominately falls on high earning individuals in “blue” states anyway. Let them scream for tax reform.

7. Tax university endowments that aren’t used to offset tuition.

I could list more, but you already have the idea. I think that you should make your proposal more generic and just go after the entertainment industry in general. Tax them until they’ve been bled white.

Oh, one more idea: Tax newspapers who are operating under a joint operation agreement.

We can always use the threat of a primary against him. That usually works...

Right on!

Just keep using the term

Targeted Revenue Enhancements

Targeted

Targeted

Targeted

That's what they do. Keep repeating the word "Targeted."

Sooner or later all those who are "targeted" will shut up and quit asking for tax increases.

If they don't, tax them.

Enough with Republicans. Enough with the argument of splitting the vote if you go third party. This is an example of how they are just as much the enemy right here and why we got into this position to begin with and why the Republican party needs to die.

The way I see it, that’s Boehner’s Strike Three - December’s cuts, debt limit negotiations and now this.

Boehner and his ilk can’t solve THE MONEY throuble because THRY ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Everything I needed to know about Boehner I learned way back at TARP. He’s nothing but a Country Club Big Government phoney with an R in front of his name. Plus, he’s the jerk who tried to silence the Tea Partiers.

Him and those like him have helped dig America’s grave financially.

Tax increases will put unemployment over 12%.

Since the real rate is 16% that would be an improvement.

I have no problem with closing any tax loopholes etc. But, I am against any real tax increases.

You make some good points.

Unfortunately, getting a single democrat in Congress to sign on to any of these proposals would be like pulling teeth.
