LONG BEACH, Wash. (AP) As Charles Ostrander flailed in the turbulent waves of the Pacific, it was another 12-year-old who put her life on the line to save him the first in a series of responders who eventually pulled Ostrander back from the brink of death.
Nicole Kissel's daring actions provided rescue crews with what turned out to be a crucial extension of time. Ostrander, who goes by his nickname Dale, ended up spending several minutes lost in the water, was found lifeless in the surf but has since been revived in a remarkable recovery that defied even the expectations of his parents.
On Wednesday, he was out of the ICU and starting to talk with his family.

Beautiful story - thanks for the post....
thank you
Thanks for posting this Politicalmom.
I can’t imagine how the parents must have felt, but thank God for His intervention, and for the rescuers valiant efforts.
Prayers up for a full and speedy recovery for Dale.
Amazing story.
It is an odd feeling being responsible for saving someone’s life. In the heat of the moment you just do what you have to do. Without much thought. Then afterwards when others make a big deal out if it it seems silly because you did what most people would have done.
On the other side of the coin being unsuccessful when trying to help someone who has been felled by a heart attack or hurt in a car accident never leaves your heart......
good story
My screen is blurry.
Kudos to the young lady for her courageous attempt !! You Go girl !!
It remains to be seen how well the lad does, but his survival is due to the “mamellian dive reflex” all of us have. Lets hope it, and the cold water temperature triggering it, protected him. >PS
I am thanking God that MY 12 year old daughter doesn’t look like that. I haven’t bought my gun yet. :)
Is that the same girl who pulled him onto her boogie board? She sure looks different from the pictures accompanying the story (still and video). Maybe I missed something.
Beats me. I thought it looked like a different girl, too.
