For those not familiar with the venue, the stage is quite a distance from the covered grandstand. The section in between is the straightaway of the old dirt race track. Folding chairs and standing areas are sectioned off on this dirt area.
The part that collapsed was the canopy over the stage which also has lighting and a video screen. Basically steel trusses covered by tarps.
Commendable work by spectators helping in the rescue, both extraction of the wounded and medical personnel in the crowd assisting with triage and emergency aid.
Gov. Daniels wife and daughter were behind the stage when it collapsed.
The Gov. praised Hoosiers, noting that hundreds instinctively ran TOWARDS the danger to help, instead of away. He was near tears when he said this.
It’s really too bad this man won’t be President.
