First, if Pappas wears the scolding as a badge of honor, it might lead to better job offers given the make-up of those who hire journalists.
Second, Palin has to rapidly respond to anything that looks remotely like she supports Romney. The scolding, and the hubbub after accomplishes her objective, which is to make it clear that she is NOT endorsing Romney. If she is anything other than loud and brash on this stuff, it WILL be taken the wrong way.
