Shawn Christy was arrested after sending threats to Sarah Palin and other famous people for years. The last straw for authorities was Christy's purchase of a handgun and tickets to a Sarah Palin fundraiser in his home state of Pennsylvania. Christy had sent Palin copies of receipts for the gun and the ticket which elevated him from just a nut who had been threatening them for years to a public safety risk. Previous attempts to contact Palin included several threatening emails and a call he made to Palin's house after tracking down her number. In some messages he threatened to rape one of Palin's daughters and her friend Kristan Cole who got restraining order against Christy at the same time Palin did.
Shawn Christy has threatened several other famous people over the years. In 2008 he became a subject of concern for the Secret Service after threatening Barack Obama and John McCain.
