Social Security disability on verge of insolvency
AP/Yahoo ^ | August 21, 2011 | STEPHEN OHLEMACHER

Laid-off workers and aging baby boomers are flooding Social Security's disability program with benefit claims, pushing the financially strapped system toward the brink of insolvency.

Applications are up nearly 50 percent over a decade ago as people with disabilities lose their jobs and can't find new ones in an economy that has shed nearly 7 million jobs.

The stampede for benefits is adding to a growing backlog of applicants — many wait two years or more before their cases are resolved — and worsening the financial problems of a program that's been running in the red for years.

New congressional estimates say the trust fund that supports Social Security disability will run out of money by 2017, leaving the program unable to pay full benefits, unless Congress acts. About two decades later, Social Security's much larger retirement fund is projected to run dry as well.

Used to work for SSA. The public has no idea about how bad the corruption and mismanagement is within that organization. The SSI program is the worst.

This was brought on by the ADA signed by Bush I. It has been expanded to include ingrown toenails.

No more Bushes, Clintons or any other Yale/Harvard socialists.

Pitiful.
Every hour on TV, another SS “disability” law firm promises to win you free money for life.

What was it Shakespeare said about lawyers ?

Television is flooded with lawyers advertising that they can get you disability loot even if you have already been “denied”. Just about anything qualifies. Do you feel itchy? No problem. Feel down and unhappy? That’s depression and qualifies. Too lazy to get out of bed? Piece of cake.
Land of the free and home of the brave? Nah. Land of the parasites and saps. We here fall into the latter category.

85% of members of DU are fraudulently on Social Security Disability. The other 15% are still getting their dead parents Social Security checks and cashing them.

Insurance was never meant to pay for EVERYTHING. When insurance became a big thing, it was intended to prevent catastrophic damage to one’s household income.

Nowadays, insurance means, “Oh, I can go to the doctor for this scrape on my knee, and I don’t have to pay a thing!”

Perhaps we should consider how to reform the idea of insurance in this country back to its original meaning?

An older couple visiting a local SS office said that whole families of lazy people were there signing up for SSI.

-——What was it Shakespeare said about lawyers ? -——

I think the quote is “the only good lawyer is a dead lawyer”

But that seems a little harsh. We must have defendants lawyers to feed off the crumbs left by the plaintiff’s bar.

Yeah, I’ve noticed those ads too—hard not too if you watch any TV at all. If the lawyers are buying in, I wonder: does the Government pay their fee if they win their “case”?

I’ve also heard that illegals can receive as well. Not sure how true that it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. No SS# needed?

OK, can some one, anyone explain this to me:

Last week I was informed by the IRS that my past two quarterly 941 reports were calculated incorrectly and I am due a refund. Since this is the same form that I have been using for a number of years, I was shocked.

The IRS employee told me that the percentage for figuring social security has changed from .124 to .104 for employer contributions!!!!!!!

I am really ticked off! We have been told for years that Social Security is insolvent, after the SOB’s in DC have been raiding it for decades. Now they are reducing employer contributions? It screams WTF!

I am firmly convinced (not that I needed any more convincing) after finding this out, that this administration wants to destroy America!

Anyone have a rational answer as to why they did this?

You can only dope up so many po' kids and pay their baby mammas extra for so long before the money runs out.

It seems every kid with a problem is diagnosed as depressed and put on pills...

My brother, who married very poorly, married into a whole family of SSD scammers. His wife and her parents (who all live under his roof) all receive SSD for seizures --that no one has ever seen them suffer. Not only that but his wife gets an additional "caregiver" check from the government for looking after her obese, drug-addled mother.

It's really a pathetic sight. Our tax dollars at work.

Much of the focus in Washington has been on fixing Social Security’s retirement system, but it’s the disability system that’s in worse shape.

SSD is a way of life for a huge segment of people. A guy I know, has all his kids signed up and was complaining that as they turn 18, the government starts sending the checks directly to them!

The fastest growing population of U.S. Social Security Disability recipients is located in Puerto Rico, not even a U.S. state.

Disability claims in Puerto Rico are exploding exponentially.

Free money!

America is nearly finished from the cancer of its relentless socialism, now beyond the ability of anyone to fund.
