(RALEIGH) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been in the Presidential race for barely more than a week, but Tom Jensen with Public Policy Polling said a recent round of polling in North Carolina and Colorado already ranks Perry close to deserving front runner status.
"We're already finding Perry tied for the lead in both North Carolina and Colorado and these polls were conducted before he even officially entered the race," said Jensen.
In North Carolina Perry is in a three way tie with Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin. Each getting 17-percent. Perry also led a poll conducted in Virginia three weeks ago.
1. Perry was polling very well in these states even before he entered the race or did any campaigning.
2. If Perry and Palin are both in, the conservative vote will be continuously split from state to state as it was in 2008.
In the same way that dynamic made McCain the "default" nominee 2008, it will work very much to Willard Romney's advantage.

I have said this over and over here. I usually get lit up like Bagdad Circa 2003 for my efforts, but we are both correct. Too many conservative candidates will split support and nominate Mitt by default. I will not settle on one yet but I plan to soon. If Sarah is not in the race (possible announcement on September 3rd) soon, I’m going with Perry. If she waits a couple more months and jumps in, TFB.
Looks like all the corporate welfare is paying off for Ricardo P.

I think Perry will win NC. That being said the NC primary occurs so late in the calendar, the GOP nominee will probably be decided already.
Then it seems that for the good of the country, Perry should drop out.
Our country needs Palin as our President, not Perry.
Did he do something illegal? If not you’re sounding like an Obama shill/ Democrat.
Well if Perry is the Romney killer we were all hoping for, which it appears he is, then I am all for him. If we can knock Myth out of a few of these Primaries, he will be toast.
The conservative vote is pretty much going to Cain and Bachmann at the moment, with hopes that Palin and Brewer might jump in.
have you looked at the ‘nation wide’ polls on her favorability?
If we nominate her, we will get 4 more years of Obama.
She is a wonderful woman, but no way should she enter this race.
The country needs Cain over Bachman any day. Cain and Gingrich are the only candidates who recognize the the dangers that Islam poses to this country and are willing to mention it.
Consider this — we can jump through hoops, get the economy growing again, regain our AAA rating, get jobs for everyone who wants to work, but if shariah law gets hold of this country it will be all for nought and we’ll be back at square one, and most likely worse off.
Seen a shariah-run country with the ideals we aspire to?
If people look at the records, rather than the rhetoric, it will be Perry and Romney splitting the moderate vote, assuming a conservative enters the race, or one of the others in the race catch on.
She’ll enter the race on September 3. On September 4 she’ll announce that Bravo has the rights to air her campaign as a reality show.
We will continue to disagree on this.
Had folks bought your argument many years ago, we would have never elected Reagan.
Seventeen things critics are saying about Rick Perry (and the truth)....http://peskytruth.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/rick-perrys-negatives/
This puts Perrys record, which is very positive, in perspective. It also talks about the relative strength of the Texas governorship.
I don’t think she is going to announce on the MSM created date of September 3, but she will a few weeks later.
I do recommend that you drink lots of water and stay with soft foods. This will lesson the chance of large chunks coming up and blocking your airway while you are puking your guts out....... when she does announce and goes on to take this country by storm.

I would say that Perry will pull from both moderates and conservatives. He has a strong list of conservative positives, far more than Mitt. See post 31 at the link.

Perry is very strong against abortion and gay marriage, and he rejects the idiocy of global warming. He also has very strong fiscal creds which will be extrememly important in the general wooing indies that don’t care about social issues.
Yes, he also has his negatives. Perry’s record has been hashed over repeatedly on this conservative site in the past few days. Many Palin supporters, including me, have stated, that they will support Perry if Sarah does not get in, I have not heard one of them say they will support Mitt if Sarah does not get in. Some will go to Bachmann.
My argument doesn’t apply to Reagan’s situation. He didn’t get the nomination the first time around. I was on Reagan’s bandwagon the first and second time. I guess I am sort of elderly.
It has never been more critical to get this present administration out of office for the future of this nation. I want to take no chances.
