Rick Perry: Middle Income Americans Don't Pay Enough Income Taxes [leftist spin, ie, lie]
Forbes ^ | 8/18/2011 | Len Burman

Posted on 08/22/2011 8:50:31 PM PDT by Graneros

I’ve been blissfully off the grid for the past few days, cycling in Western New York. (Allegany State Park is absolutely gorgeous. Made me be glad to be paying taxes in New York State.) I could forget about the debt ceiling fiasco, 9 percent unemployment, the tea party, runaway health spending, global warming, the NBA lockout…

But back in the real world, I learn from newly minted GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry what’s wrong with America—that middle income Americans don’t pay enough taxes. Really.

We’re dismayed at the injustice that nearly half of all Americans don’t even pay any income tax. (Quoted in this terrific Ruth Marcus column.)

We’re apparently not dismayed that more than half of all Americans have been in a 30-year recession with little or no income growth. We’re apparently willing to write off Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes, which are the big federal taxes for low- and middle-income Americans. A family of four earning $30,000 may pay no federal income tax, but it pays $4,590 in payroll taxes (including the employer’s share, which economists believe is ultimately paid by the employee in the form of lower wages). Payroll taxes are much bigger than income taxes for most families.

What a guy that "consevative" Perry is. Oh but I forgot anybody but Obama right? Doesn't matter the replacement so many want is an Obama lite. You can have him. He doesn't pass muster with me. I want a real conservative in the WH not some Bilderberger stealth candidate.

51% pays no Income tax and another percent gets more money out with earned income credit.

What's up with FReepers citing hit pieces from ultra-libs to bash Perry?

It IS a problem that over 50% of the country doesn't pay any income tax.

Stating that somehow makes him "Obama lite"?!?

>>We’re dismayed at the injustice that nearly half of all Americans don’t even pay any income tax<<

Perry just wants everyone to pay their fair share. The statement does not say what the headline says it states.

But, if some people want to buy the MSM spin out of the box, well, who am I to disabuse them?

Middle Income Americans Don't Pay Enough Income Taxes is Len Burman's quote, not governor Perry's quote. What Governor Perry pointed out was the inordinate portion of taxes paid by the top income earners in light of the class warfare demands that they pay more. At that, this is a 2 page article pontificating on the author's own issues, not what the governor said.

Have tinfoil anti-Bilderberger hat?

Understand that the rich pay the most taxes? Understand that we ALREADY have forced charity? No?

Think ALL but the abject poor should have some skin in the game?

Think we’re going to keep all kinds of great jobs here when other countries will let you pollute and pay just enough wages to prevent workers from having to sleep in the actual sewer?

The tank of BS is running real empty. If you can’t find a reason to bash Perry, just make up crap when he states a fact.
The transparency of this attack is way too clear.

What’s wrong with what Perry said ? Half the country pays no income tax, this is repeated by conservatives all over the place.

Perry has enough wrong with him without the Libtard media’s help. We can do much much better.

There is another Rick, but he’s a dark horse candidate at present, unfortunately. Santorum is the conservative that true Republicans crave. We are just so the Party of Stupid, we can’t see it.

Perry’s history (action) as Governor suggests otherwise.

One more time, but not to get picky but it’s “Federal Income Tax” ~ not just income tax. At the same time fica plus the employer’s part pretty much amounts to a substantial chunk of any working person’s income ~ you add state income tax to that, along with property tax, sales tax and a wide variety of other taxes (none of which ever go away), and Middle Class income isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Sorry, but you seem to be mistaken. I guess it depends upon what you call Middle America. Since 50% of Americans pay no income taxes at all I guess you are talking about the other top half of America. If that is true and that is what Perry is really saying, then you are right... Middle America is paying enough - it is the lower half of all Americans that who pay nothing that is the problem. How can you have an investment in the American economy when you have nothing to lose, only to gain.

Actually, the tax problems are many and diverse. All of the special interest deductions need to be removed - flat tax is the ideal. That would mean that every American would have to invest in the American dream, taxed by income - no deductions.

It is way past time that all of the tax deductions requested by lobbyists be removed.

Middle Americans?? What does Forbes want 20% to pay for all the wasteful government spending? They use the same terms as Democrats ‘payroll taxes’. No, those are ‘entitlement taxes’ and right now they are paying little FICA but still entitled to SS.

Back in the 1990s I used to get Forbes delivered, but it was different then,

Maybe those ‘middle Americans’ who pay no income taxes should demand less spending...,just a thought

Hey now, you just wait for the ‘purist’ patrol to show up and explain away why we are NOT taxed enough. See while the holy compassionate among US demand cheap labor and bodies to fill their church pews, they have NO problem taxing US to fund the education and health care of their cheap labors. Liberals know full well that the GOP will raise taxes before they will actually cut any spending.

No one should have any problem with Perry's position on taxes ~ but this article has nothing to do with his position on taxes.

He does have a record you can look at.

I much prefer Mitch Daniels record, but he's not running. Some problem he had with a State Supreme Court appointee who seems given to using Sharia Law to counsel his decisions.

Now that's an issue!

Oh, and you are terribly wrong about Perry! You seem to be one of those surface (read media) thinkers that refuse to think for themselves.
