Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former IMF chief, has been described as "mentally ill" by Michel Rocard, France's highly respected former prime minister.
The 81-year-old elder statesman of the Socialist party delivered his damning verdict in a live TV interview on Monday night.
Mr Rocard - French prime minister from 1988 to 1991 - said it was clearly medical problems that drove Mr Strauss-Kahn to become embroiled in repeated sex scandals.
The 63-year-old former head of the International Monetary Fund was recently freed from charges of trying to rape a hotel chambermaid in New York.
Guinea-born maid Nafissatou Diallo, 32, has launched a separate civil lawsuit for sexual abuse, and another criminial complaint in Paris for buying the silence of a French woman he abused 14 years ago.
Mr Strauss-Kahn also faces more charges in Paris for the attempted rape of young French writer Tristane Banon in 2003.
Mr Rocard told Canal+ televisions Grand Journal news: This man quite obviously has a mental illness that makes it difficult for him to control his urges.

"I felt that I was 'damned if I did and damned if I didn't'
What do we know about his childhood?
Was his dad a philanderer or did he grow up without one?
She’s an economist? Man, I wish there were girls like her in my economics class!
DSK’s not mentally ill, he’s just a corrupt man who abuses his power. So was Tiger Woods, and Bill Clinton etc.
The family settled in Agadir, Morocco, in 1951, but after the 1960 earthquake moved to Monaco, where his father had a legal practice. While the family was living in Monaco, Strauss-Kahn went to school at the Lycee Albert 1er. The family later[when?] returned to Paris, where he attended high school at the Lycée Carnot. He graduated from HEC Paris in 1971 and from Sciences-Po in 1972. He sat and failed the entrance examination for École nationale d'administration, but obtained a degree in public law, as well as a PhD and an agrégation (1977) in economics at the Université Paris X (Nanterre).[11]
Maybe he had has always bought his way in and out of BIO/life experiences.
First wife he met at the age of 14, she was older [16] married because parents would not allow them to live together and had they had a child.
Perhaps he was mentally ill back then? ;)
re: “mentally ill”
we could say that about Bill Clinton, and a whole list of depraved pols
She can be an example of both the shift of the demand curve and the movement of the quantity demanded curve.
As they say in France: “Boy Howdy!!”
The photo shows Tristane Banon, a French journalist and writer, who has accused DSK of raping her. The economist mentioned is Piroska Nagy, a former IMF employee who had a consensual affair with DSK.
Yep. He's just crazy about that chambermaid!
It should say, "who has accused DSK of attempting to rape her."
Interesting, so Strauss-Kahn is about 3/4 Jewish. If I were Jewish, I'm glad he doesn't parade that about!!!
On another note -- it is interesting how diverse the French political scene is - Sarkozy has a Hungarian aristocratic father and a mother who is French Catholic-Greek Jewish mix.
He’s a perv
It’s always the impoverished outsiders who want the brass ring badly enough to really bust their asses for it. Neither Sarko nor Strauss-Kahn could be called “impoverished” but they were probably snubbed and shunned by the smart set while coming up.
Look up “Tristane Banon” and read between the lines. She is an unbearably shallow, celebrity-chasing, socialite hipster-journalist and sometime TV presenter who’s tossed off a couple of thinly-disguised novels all inspired by her spoiled-but-neglected, poor-little-rich-girl upbringing. She’s traded shamelessly on her looks (just have a gander at her website: http://www.tristane-banon-officiel.com/) and glamor all her life and, at 32, is desperate to find a more stable source of income or a rich husband before the laugh lines and crow’s feet start coming in.
