Fox News Poll: Perry Overtakes Romney as Top GOP 2012 Pick; Most Say Palin Should Stay Out of Race By Dana Blanton September 01, 2011 | Even as Texas Gov. Rick Perry moves into the lead as Republican voters’ preferred presidential candidate, a Fox News poll released Thursday shows that voters are more likely to view him as “too extreme” than former frontrunner Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney.

Even as Texas Gov. Rick Perry moves into the lead as Republican voters’ preferred presidential candidate, a Fox News poll released Thursday shows that voters are more likely to view him as “too extreme” than former frontrunner Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney.

In addition, most American voters -- including a majority of Republicans -- think former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin should stay out of the presidential race. Perry receives the support of 26 percent of GOP primary voters in the new poll. That’s up from 13 percent in early August and enough to edge out Romney as frontrunner. Currently Romney captures 18 percent, down from 21 percent (August 7-9).

No other candidate garners double-digit support.

Palin receives 8 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul comes in at 7 percent. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann captures the backing of 4 percent, down from a high of 11 percent in late June. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and businessman Herman Cain also garner 4 percent each. Another 4 percent support former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, even though he has said he is not running and his name wasn’t included in the question. Giuliani and Palin are unannounced.

It appears as though the state run MSM is going to select out candidate for us again this time.

Depends on the Fox News Poll: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/index.html Of course, they don’t report *this* poll.

In the presidential primary election or caucus in your state next year, are you more likely to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary for president, or are you unlikely to participate in either?

Democratic Primary 40%
Republican Primary 37%
Neither 13%
(Other/Don’t know) 9%

Results based on the full sample have a margin of error of ± 3%

Results among subgroups have larger sampling errors, including:

Democrats (n = 380) ± 5%
Republicans (n = 326) ± 5.5%
Independents (n = 170) ± 7.5%
GOP Primary Voters (n = 341) ± 5.5%

In many ways, I'd like to see Palin stay out of the race. She would be a distraction since she's been pretty well trashed by the RIM. I remember what happened to Dan Quayle on something as stupid as "potato" and how he was made out to be totally stupid.

I would love to see her appointed to a solid cabinet post by Perry or Bachmann where she could shine and then later run.

As long as we have so many good candidates (except Romney and that other late comer, Huntsman), I think the focus should be to get that interloper out of our White House as solidly and as resoundly as possible.

Interesting question and responses.

28. Are there any announced or potential candidates
for the Republican nomination who you feel are just
too extreme to be seriously considered? If yes, who?
(OPEN ENDED. DO NOT READ LIST. MULTIPLE RESPONSES ALLOWED.)

(Bachmann) 18%
(Perry) 14
(Palin) 12
(Paul) 10
(Gingrich) 5
(Romney) 4
(Cain) 3
(Santorum) 3
(Huntsman) 2
(No, None) 35
(Other) 4

A question that is never asked during a democratic primary, Actually for the DemonRats the proper question would be is there a candidate who is not extreme enough.

FNC was my “holdout” station...Pretty much the reason I kept dish network around as long as I did. When they (FNC) started going south, it was easy to cancel my subscription. Yeah, after the first couple weeks of twitching while being sensitized to the real world again, I realized it was the best decision I have made this year. Good riddance to all that crap.
