HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) NASCAR star Tony Stewart scoffed at the notion he turned down an invitation from the White House as some sort of political statement.
Stewart is among four Sprint Cup drivers who say they can't attend next week's meeting with President Obama because of scheduling conflicts. Eight others who made last year's Cup playoff, including five-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson, plan to be there along with NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France.
"Trust me, if we could be there, we'd definitely be there," Stewart said Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "I've always viewed it as an honor just to get an invitation to go. I've enjoyed every trip every time I've gone there. I've learned more and more about it. And it's pretty cool feeling to be with most powerful man in the world. That's not an invitation we take lightly."
When word got out that Stewart, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards wouldn't be going to the White House next Wednesday, it sparked plenty of chatter on talk shows and social media networks. There was speculation the four were making some sort of protest about Obama's policies on behalf of a generally conservative sport.

Who the hell wants to go to Hip-Hop Wednesday in da big crib?
Uh huh...yeah, I believe Tony. NOT.
Probably the same person who scheduled his joint session jobs speech. I'm surprised they didn't wait to invite the Green Bay Packers to the White House the same day as his revised date.
maybe
The gloves are off when they climb in the car.
Yeah but their fingers were crossed behind their backs when they said it... this came from the legal eagles at NASCAR... obama owns the IRS and other tools that can be used to harm NASCAR.

Diplomacy is the are of saying "Nice doggie!" while picking up rocks.
NASCAR participants love their country, TOTUS wants to fundamentally change the country. You are the company that you keep...
Tony has an appointment to rearrange his fire-retardant sock drawer!
scheduling conflicts? he try to call ‘em in on a night when the Repub candidates are debating again?
I will, after all the contempt and disdain Obama has for everyone else is reflected in this little ditty, remember?
“So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustration.”
Is it so surprising that the contempt average Americans have for Obama is reflected back at him?
NASCAR stars say no disrespect for Obama.
Why would winners want to hang with known loser?.
While I have absolutely no issue with the drivers who will accept the gratuitous and insincere invitation from Mister Obama (who does not know a hemi from an ashtray) ...
...the above four drivers are, as of now, the new heroes of NASCAR, and clever t-shirts and bumper stickers and even songs will soon be upon us (and remain forever in NASCAR lore.)
Betcha.

Exactly! Much too real for a charlatan, arugula snob like BHO.
I would die and go to hell before I would go visit with the sob.

Thanks to your quoting of my original post, I just now saw the botch I made:
s/it's/its/I'm not an arugula snob but might be a bit of a grammar/syntax snob. :-)
So, apologies to all for my use of a contraction when I should have used the possessive adjective. I know better...really I do...absolutely...certainly. :-)
My respect for these guys just went into the toilet!
It’s almost like a visit to Berchdesgaden..
