Did Perry do ok in the debate? The press this am isn’t that good for him. I wasn’t able to see it; he is getting a little criticism on FR, as well. (Personally, I don’t think that Gardasil has legs, rightly or wrongly. I am not thrilled with the criticism that I have seen this am that he seemed unprepared).
He seems slow on his feet, a la GWB in the debates. We need someone who can trounce Obama in the debates, and Rick Perry isn’t that person.
NO...the vaccination has NO legs at all. I know folks here at FR would like to think it does but it doesn't Americans are interested in JOBS and the ECONOMY...the rest they could care less about.
Perry did ok. he was better than last week. He is firm in his positions under fire. He had some very good answers, Other were ok. he still seems unaccustomed to the format, and if he is to win, i hope he continues to improve and get more stilled in his responses.
It’s not Perry’s politics that I have a problem with. What bothers me is HE IS NOT A GOOD DEBATER..... great speaker but he seems awfully uncomfortable, and unsure of himself, in the Debates. He needs some fire in the belly and to not be so monotone. He reminds me of Fred Thompson in the ‘08 race. Good ideas and good policy but doesn’t seem hungry enough. Step it up a few notches Rick.
I didn’t think Perry did well. He did seem unprepared at times. Especially on the Gardisil thing. A few times he repeated the phrase “It’s a states-rights issue” without making an argument, as if that phrase would absolve everything. Also, his anti-fence and pro-benefits for illegals position did not endear him to me. The candidate field seems weak.
My impression, as a Perry supporter, is that he started off strong, but took some hits on the Gardasil and immigration questions. I think, considering this was a Tea Party audience, that was to be expected, but I don't think he handled the questions nearly as well as he should have, and that will probably cost him with the Tea Party folks. However, it may help him with independents, so it may be a wash - we will see. But he definitely needs to step up his game.
I think Bachmann managed to finally eliminate herself as a serious contender. Cain and Gingrich had some really good remarks, but neither of them will be the nominee. So I think the person helped most last night is Romney, unfortunately.
The one issue that Gov. Perry is going to have to walk back and explain more than any other is his support for the "in state tuition for illegals"! It will become a much bigger problem for him than SS or HPV, IMO.
I do live in Texas, right on the Mexican border, and it galls me that illegals can not only get the "in state tuition" but go on the dole as well. We are not talking about "anchor" children here, but flat out illegals.
I understand the huge problem we have concerning the number of illegals in the country and the logistics of rounding them all up and sending them back south. Not to mention the cost, but to reward the illegal behavior is just wrong. Period.
Would it keep me from voting for him in the general election? Probably not, but it will be a tough one for many conservatives to get beyond. So he has some real work ahead of him in that regard, once again in my opinion.
Then she pretends to be "offended", yea right. She wasn't offended at all, she saw it as an opportunity to attack Perry for almost a nothing issue.
Bachmann appears to be selling out to Romney and he's more than willing to accept her help. Why?
