A tentative deal has been struck in the negotiations between representatives from three supermarket chains and the union representing 62,000 Southland grocery store workers, the president of the workers union confirmed. ...

Details of the agreement have not yet been made public. Any tentative agreement struck at the negotiation table will still have to be voted on by union members before it is approved. The agreement will be presented to union members for ratification later this week.

Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons issued the following joint statement:

"We are pleased to have reached a tentative settlement agreement with the union that continues to preserve good wages, secure pensions and access to quality, affordable health care – while allowing us to be competitive in the marketplace. We appreciate the hard work, support and patience that everyone has shown during the past seven months, and particularly the past few weeks. Details of the tentative agreement were not made public pending ratification."

I suspect the union realized it didn't have the SoCA community's support for a strike in this economic climate.

I’m sure the unions realized that the grocery industry could come up with 62,000 employees real fast.

Oh! Wait! ...it's time for my morning pre-break break that comes before my lunch break.

Sorry, I'll get you a manager.

There is a pending strike by hospital staff workers against Kaiser Permanente this week, with a serious effort on the part of the California Nurses' Association to walk out on sympathy... DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE NURSES HAVE A NO-STRIKE CONTRACT. Worse, they intend to fine nurses who abide by their contract and show up for work.

In my humble opinion, to foment a sympathy walk out (effectively a strike) thus endangering patients and their families and despite a no-strike contract is worse than breach of contract, it is criminal fraud, malicious mischief, and reckless endangerment. These union thugs should be subject to jail terms.

Sympathy walkouts should be illegal, particularly when under a no-strike contract. A union even suggesting it should be decertified immediately. How can you fine your own members for abiding by their contract? It’s insanity.

Especially when innocent lives of paying customers are at risk.
