Abbas is asking the international community to formally ratify the exact physical boundaries of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian terms.

If the UN can do this, they can divide any ones land. What if Mexico decides it wants California? The UN would have set the president, and they could vote on it.
Granted, most of America probably wouldn't care if Mexico took San Fransisco, but they'd object to Mexico taking the whole state.
