Sarah Palin Can Square the William F. Buckley and Rush Limbaugh Rules For a Republican Primary
Human Events ^ | Sunday September 25, 2011 | Tony Lee

Herman Cain win in the "Presidency 5" straw poll in Florida on Saturday has reset much of the narrative concerning the 2012 Republican presidential contest. Here are some questions being asked. First, was Cain's victory a reflection of the general dissatisfaction Republicans feel toward purported front-runners Mitt Romney and Rick Perry? Second, could another candidate enter the presidential contest? Third, will the Republican primary contest be a battle between the William F. Buckley rule versus the Rush Limbaugh rule?

If Republicans are indeed not enthused about Messrs. Perry and Romney, one candidate could be primed to enter the race who can square the Buckley rule of electing the most electable conservative with the Limbaugh rule of electing the most conservative person in the field.

That candidate is former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Buckley said that Republicans should elect the most electable conservative in the field. Often, Republicans act as if Buckley said Republicans should elect the most electable "Republican" in the field and conflate "conservative" with "Republican."

[...]

One reason Palin may have won over independent voters in the past month is that she brought up the issue of crony capitalism in multiple speeches and television appearances before Obama was hit with a bevy of crony capitalism scandals ranging from Solyndra to LightSquared. Further, Palin has also reached out to union workers and disaffected Democrats in Facebook notes and speeches with her free market populism that pits her against big government and crony capitalism. This is the strategy Reagan used to build his enduring coalition, which Palin seems to be trying to cobble back together for the 21st century, uniting blue collar voters -- white and minority -- who identify with Main Street over Wall Street and Washington, D.C.

Palin is the only hope that Constitutional Conservatives have in beating Obama and his War On Freedom.

Palin has her finger on the pulse of the nation ... and not just conservatives. Her going after the “moneyed interests” in Washington hits a home run in many quarters.

I don’t know how she would overcome her negatives ... or even if she would be a good President ... but she sure as hell is a good politician!

Well, the door has certainly opened for her, if she wishes to take that step. I hope she does, as she adds a whole different and needed diminsion to the race, with her anti-corruption/clean government stances. She’s the one candidate who I’d be confident would go after the whole sleazy political-class structure, rather than just jump in and turn the gravy-train money spiggot back to an “R” from a “D,” which seems to be all the GOP Establishment craves.

I was leaning Perry, but he lost it with the last debate. Now it’s Sarah or Cain. I would enthusiastically support either of those two. A dream ticket would be both.

After Sarah and Cain, there is a huge drop in interest level. But Romney is way down, even on that list. A vote for Romney would be the same as voting for a Democrat, so why bother?

Well both of them are natural born citizens, for sure! Palin/Cain. I’d donate and campaign for that ticket.

You do realize that Palun cut a 25 point lead by Obama into 5 in a recent Maris poll? She actually leads him among independents.

Could you name one?

... or even if she would be a good President

Why not?

You actually have 5 variables in one sentence. Kind of negates your message whatever it was.

The answer is that ANYONE can beat Obama this coming election. Won't matter what kind of war he's involved in, or whether or not the person winning is Constitutional, a Conservative, or able to lift his arm to beat a drum!

So, who do we want as President? Palin or Caine ~ or somebody else ~ or someone who really wants the job because he or she thinks he is the best possible President.

We have the power to pick the next President. I'd like a guy who has his bills paid up. Be good to have someone who knows the breath of death and does not fear it (kind of in the tradition of Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Bush). I think such people are not as easily bought off emotionally ~ doesn't mean they're smarter than the others but they'd push the button if need be.

I think I'd also like a guy with experience in managing something ~ which pretty much rules out most of the lawyers and professional politicians.

Usually I worry about our nominee winning the general election. This time I have NO doubt Cain will take Obama to wood shed and have a landside victory. The MSM including Fox and all the good ole boy talking heads like rove, kristol and the rest will brush thus off as an anomoly. Don’t let them distract you. Never ever again will they tell US who we should vote for. The people are SICK of politicians. The want problem solvers.

Have you read either of her books or seen her movie? If you haven’t, you don’t know anything about her.

Do you mean other than the fact that she is un-qualified to be potus...she is decidedly un-electable and that she is stringing these usefeul idiots along? Why nothing at all.

Of course she’s qualified, of course she’s electable, and she’s not stringing along her supporters who are not idiots.

Do you actually honestly think about the drivel you spew out here about her?

Better than that, I looked at her actual record as mayor and governor and I saw her rambling, dis-jointed "I quit" speech live. I do not need to read some ex-post-facto- revisionist rendering of the facts.

I’m very concerned about Governor Palin’s signing of the very ethics Bill that caused her to resign and (even more) by her veto of bills in Alaska that would have restricted abortions on Medicaid and limited same-sex benefits.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-11-palin-cover_N.htm

It seems that she was unwilling to make a fight for life and marriage because her Attorney General told her to back down.

Hopefully, she’s had time to learn, especially since Parnell vetoed the most recent Medicaid abortion bill. http://prospect.org/cs/articles?article=alaskas_peculiar_battle_over_abortion
