FEMA officials said pet owners should keep a pet emergency supply kit, which should include at least a three-day supply of food in an airtight, waterproof container, drinking water, bowls for the food and water, current photos of you and your pets together, physical descriptions of each pet, medication, vaccination records and first aid pet supplies.

I just opened some Purina ONE Chicken & Rice dry food that I put up two years ago, after vaccum packing it with oxygen absorbers in a mylar bag. Hope didn't have a problem with it at all. I consider her part of my securty plan should shtf.
PING!!!
I’ve got no problem with saving pets but FEMA needs to be euthanized.
Dry pet foods use a generous amount of methoxyquin to retard aging — a chemical that is verboten in human foods, but not known to have toxic effects upon pets.
Canned foods can last decades as long as corrosion through the metal does not occur. Swelled and leaky cans should be discarded.
Barbecued collie was part of my prepping plan but I had to put her down this summer.
Agreed about FEMA.
Like I said my dog is certainly a part of my shtf security plan. It’s impossible to sneak up on her and she don’t need near as much sleep as I do! ;-)
It’s become yet another spoils system under Obama. It was semi-reasonable under Bush, the chief failing of FEMA under Bush being that he did not realize that Katrina had hit a bunch of thumb sucking babies that couldn’t do squat for themselves and needed extra attention.
So tell me will it make me un-Christian, when I have food for my dog, but nothing for the ‘thumb suckers’?
I feel like a real fool living in a place with few natural disasters and buying my own insurance.
My Korean neighbor unselfishly gathers the strays in the area and keeps them safe in his garage whenever a potential disaster is possible...now that I think about it I don’t recall him letting them go afterwards...Hmmm...
Be kind to your fair feathered friends,
For a duck may be somebody’s mother.
Love JRTs. Mine has a Great Dane for back up.
I recently read an article about how much sleep mammals need in 24 hours, one day. Here is what I remember:
* Humans = 8.0 hours
* Elephants = 3.0 hours
* Dogs = 10.0 hours
* Opossum = 18 hours

Not very nice. As a matter of fact, completely disgusting.
Lucky collie. Now you’re gonna burn, baby, burn. KARMA.
We use one of those buckets from Home Depot with an airtight lid. Into that goes 3 days worth of food, food and water dishes, copies of their vaccination records, leashes, toys, and a blanket.
It all fits quite well. Then we wrote DOGS on it and sealed it up.
If something happens we will just grab it and the dogs and go.
