Vancouver, WA - BNSF Railway is offering a reward for information in connection to the suspected tampering of railroad tracks that delayed nine trains in Southwest Washington on Monday.
The railroad is offering an up to $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person or persons responsible for tampering with tracks between Vancouver and Chehalis on Monday, spokesman Gus Melonas said.
Anyone with information should call the crime tip hotline at 1-800-832-5452, he said.
Informants aren’t required to give their name to get the reward.
Officials discovered the tampering just before 11 a.m. Monday near the Longview junction, Melonas said. BNSF personnel later found tampering at several spots on the tracks between Felida and Chehalis prompting the organization to shut down traffic for a few hours.
“Heightened inspections through the corridor continued through the night and into the day,” Melonas said. “Hundreds of local BNSF employees are on the lookout for any suspicious activity.”
Operations in the 60-mile corridor returned to normal on Tuesday, Melonas said.

They are very careful not to explain what “tampering” means.
Scrap hunters just doesn’t make sense. It would take too long to rip up track and it would probably require arc cutting because the rails are in long sections. Too long for a vehicle to hull away without cutting. Plus need I mention the weight?
A couple of guesses. Starting with the most obvious, the Union Goons working just up the Freeway. Second guess would be the Leftist Freaks from Evergreen State College, one of the most radically left campuses in the country again located just up I-5 in Olympia. And the third, would me Islamic Radicals.

Yeah, that’s where all the longshoremen riots are happening. They’ve been blocking trains. Vandalizing track doesn’t require them to stay out on the track.

yeah, it’s the union. They were doing it last summer (’10) too. They were ticked off about the same thing then too.
While I am not claiming that enviornmentalists are smart, but causing the derailing of a train carying sulfiric acid and other hazardous waste is far worse than letting it pass through.
Longshoremen from Longview, WA most likely. They’re not happy that the Operating Engineers union is loading/unloading the new grain terminal in Longview. They raised a little hell down there after Labor Day.

Scrap metal seekers is not a likely option because no scrap yard in Washington or Oregon will accept railroad scrap of any kind, and will call 911 if you roll onto their lot with any.
Nobody in this area has had any beef with BNSF except the Local International Longshoremen’s Union. They have been involved with an escalating series of union protest actions over the past several weeks, and I believe this is just another one of theirs. No telling what they will be emboldened to try next.
Union Goons would explain why the local news is saying very little to nothing about it. KOMO and KIRO News the two largest news stations in the NW are saying nothing.
