No, the Perry Camp shameless demagoguery about it, thus keeping the name of the family hunting camp in the headlines, is the mistake.

Cain was asked a question. He answered it. The Perry camp's attempt to turn an embarrassing error in Perry's past into an attack issue on Cain is the mistake.

It merely keeps the issue alive to Perry's determent

He answered a question without knowing the facts, that makes him wrong. It’s an embarrassing error for Cain not for Perry.

I think you’re wrong that it’s to Perry’s detriment. I think most smart people are tired of this race crap.

I would expect you, of all people, to understand the concept of a hunting lease. Perry leased some land for hunting. He found a rock on which someone (not him) had painted a negative name, and painted over it. There is nothing “embarrassing” about what Perry did, but it IS embarrassing to see Cain turning into a common race-baiter, and certain Freepers backing him up. What Cain did was no better than what Sharpton and others have always done. This was never Perry’s land, and depending on what’s in the lease, it’s likely that his use of that land was severely limited. When we lease our place, the only thing they can do on or with our land is HUNT. They have no other rights.

The idea that Cain just gave a reasonable answer to a misleading question is pure bunk.

Cain was initially presented with more than enough facts to know that the WaPo story gave him no reason whatever to ascribe insensitivity to Governor Perry or anyone associated with him. He should have resented the effort to use him as a club with which to beat another Republican. He should have refused to answer the question and insisted on talking about something important. What he did do was accuse another Republican, a white Southerner, of racial insensitivity without the slightest grounds.

That's not just an attack. It is poisonous race baiting and it has no place in our public discourse. Herman Cain should be deeply ashamed, and so should anyone who has embarrassed himself by trying to justify Cain's Al Sharpton impersonation.

The Perry camp's attempt to turn an embarrassing error in Perry's past into an attack issue on Cain is the mistake.

Embarrassing error? What error, exactly, did Perry commit? His father rented, or leased, a hunting camp 30 or 40 years ago, not Perry, and immediately painted over the name and later still turned the rock over. Just what error is there in that? Rush commented on this story today saying a picture of the rock as it exists today, after they turned it face up again, shows only the N and two ggs.

Perry didn't call the place niggerhead so once again, I ask just what error did Perry commit? The only one who committed an error was Cain with his stupid remarks before finding out if the story was factual. BTW, I am neither a Perry man or a Cain man, still waiting to see which one I will vote for. If Cain keeps this stupid crap up, and this hasn't been his only gaffe, I will NOT vote for him.

How was this an error on Perry's part? For starters, he wasn't even on the lease when this term was visable on the rock. Secondly, Perry has stated that his father had the rock painted over and overturned when it was noticed almost 3 decades ago.

This is a hatchet job of the worst kind by the press, and the members of the party should not give the press an inch of ammo. Lord knows people on here are pushing this lie, and even saying that Perry put the words himself, then made sure that it was left there.

WHAT the hell did Perry do that was wrong? From what I've heard on Rush, this happened nearly 30 years ago and involved his dad using a hunting lodge with the N word on a rock and they painted it over and turned over the rock--bit deal. What the heck is going on here, talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill, this one may take the cake.

The more I see this incessant piling on of Perry, and none of it has much substance, the more likely I am to support him.

There's some reason everyone is out to get him.
