WASHINGTON Republican White House hopeful Rick Perry tried to revive his campaign Friday but got dragged into a religious row and saw a plea to Christian voters drowned out by fast-rising longshot Herman Cain.
Perry, who exploded into the White House race in August but has since fallen back after wobbly debate performances, sought to win over evangelical Christian conservative voters, a crucial bloc in the party nominating contest.

We could do much worse than Cain. I think that now Palin has made it official that she isn’t in the race, the TEA Partiers are going full out for Herman.

"But a controversy over the man who introduced him, Texas pastor Robert Jeffress stole the headlines after his speech, and threatened to worsen Perry's already testy relations with Republican front runner Mitt Romney. Jeffress was quoted as saying by the Politico website that he viewed Romney's religion, Mormonism, as a "cult" and did not believe the former Massachusetts governor was a Christian So, Perry is in trouble because a Pastor that introduced him played "The Mormon Card".
It could have been worse. Perry could have played "The Mormon Card" HIMSELF like Cain once did.
Cain: Romneys religion is a barrier to GOP nod
Cain: Romney cant win because he has not done a good job of explaining his religion

I didn’t think Cain had a prayer. But that’s what we need to be doing - praying. God bless Mr. Cain. (I’m still grieving the loss of Palin).

Good to know because all you see on TV, including Fox News, are the MSM “chosen ones” Mitt Perry and Rick Romney.

Cain’s ascension is due to Perry’s stumbling. It has nothing to do with Palin whose focus is on the agenda and key issues. It takes teams to win. We need Palin where she is. She has nothing to lose and can inflict some damage on these liberals by telling it like it is

I just started read Mr. Caine’s book today. So far, it has gripped my attention! Seems to be well written, and I’ve really enjoyed the pages about his family and back ground.

Cain didn’t say it was a cult - he said Romney lost the southern primaries in 2008 because of southerners view on Mormonism. And that’s from your link. That may not be fair to the South and yet Perry’s preacher friend in essence confirmed that suspicion.

I see little difference between the two men as they are both raging RINOs. And I too refer to them as Mitt Perry and Rick Romney. :-)

You might have used the actual quote, which would have put a different light on that claim:
I know the South, and you have to win the South. Mitt Romney did not win it when he ran against John McCain in the 2008 primaries, said Mr. Cain. The reason he will have a difficult time winning the South this time is because when he ran the first time, he did not do a good job of communicating his religion. It doesnt bother me, but I know it is an issue with a lot of Southerners.

Cain, an African American former pizza mogul who has managed an unlikely surge into the top tier of the candidates chasing the 2012 Republican party nomination, delivered a bravura speech, which had Christian voters rolling with laughter and cheering out loud.
“People are a little bit afraid that this longshot, may not be a longshot any longer!” Cain said, in a speech mixing soaring conservative rhetoric and blunt humor, which touched the crowd in a way that Perry’s appearance did not.
He vowed to pursue a foreign policy of “peace through strength” and promised a new “clarity” towards US enemies including Iran, proposing a plan to upgrade a US missile defense system based on AEGIS destroyers.

I always find this ironic. Conservatives whine and bitch that politicians never speak the truth and always spin and dance. Then along come Cain who tells the truth and honestly answers questions and they whine and bitch that he isn't PC enough for them.
Do you want honesty or spin from you candidates?

Cain wasn’t very diplomatic to point that out. But America, which is largely used to the evangelical-Catholic axis of faith even though the two have many theological disagreements, gets seriously weirded out when LDS practices are spelled out in depth. Cain didn’t say something that was technically wrong, only arguably inappropriate.

The more I hear from Cain and the more I read, the more I like him. I went all in for Perry when he announced - which is ticking me off at this point. Heck, I even mailed a $2k check to his campaign. But...I’m rethinking my support and am taking another look at Cain. I just wish I could get a refund on Perry.
