Will tea party purists back imperfect Romney? (MSM says Tea Partiers can't win without Romney)
Communist News Network ^ | 2011-10-14 | Gloria Borger

Posted on 10/14/2011 6:29:56 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

After watching the GOP presidential debate the other night, it was hard to avoid this conclusion: Mitt Romney looks more and more like the GOP presidential nominee. He's the best debater. He's got his issues and his rejoinders down pat. He brushes away his opponents like lint on his lapel. And all with such ease.

That said, there's a teensy problem he just can't seem to beat: Conservatives don't like him. Or trust him. Or really want him to be the GOP nominee.

Sure, you say, Republicans never like their nominees, and they still manage to vote for them. There is truth to that: At this point in 2007, John McCain was still at 17% in the polls. Eventually, only Sarah Palin could make him palatable to conservatives. The Bushes were never right-wing faves. Neither were Richard Nixon or Gerald Ford. Even Ronald Reagan had candidates running to his right. And as for Bob Dole, well, he was suspect, but at least he was a war hero.

This year was supposed to be different. This was to be the time for the tea party to flourish and nominate a true believer. It's the moment, we were told, for an out-of-the-box Republican who would be against everything Barack Obama supports, like health care reform or bank bailouts.

Fine, except that Mitt Romney's Massachusetts health plan was a model for Obama (as the president fondly points out). And Romney told us during the debate that he supported the bank bailouts. ("Action had to be taken.")

If this keeps up, the tea partiers will be back at the harbor -- throwing themselves in.

Or, they can decide to suck it up and try to win.

So now we are taking advice from the losers?

Screw CNN and it's communist reporters! CNN did not care hen the “purist liberal socialist wanted to kick Lieberman out of the Democrat party!

CNN did not say a word when the purist liberal socialist forced out the “blue dog” democrats when they balked at voting for the obumbum care!

The liberal socialist know they are going to lose the next Presidential election, they need the most liberal RINO Republican they can find and he is Romney!!!!!!

In spite of CNN’s attempt to tell the Tea Party who they should nominate, the American people still have a choice, and mine will NEVER be a Romney RINO or anyone like him!

CNN still just does not get it, they are so far behind the American people's trend that they are still reporting like they never lost the last election in a major land slide!

CNN go to hell

What many on our side don't realize is that if by some miracle Mitt is elected, his primary goal will be to screw conservatives.

BINGO.

Unfortunately, the RINOS have a LONG history of turning against conservative Republican nominees. “He can’t win,” is code for ‘We won’t LET him win.’

It's long past time for the conservative base to adopt that attitude with regard to the establishment candidates.

Romney won't win because we won't LET him win.

I would have a hard time voting for Myth as well.

BUT..the thought of another O term scares me out of my mind.

Look at who is running for Senate and House.Stack them against the executive branch. It has been done in the past.

Whoever the nominee is, will get 98.9% of the tea party vote, guaranteed. We understand beating Obama and we know we can steer the cart no mater the animal pulling it.

You are 100% wrong. If Romney is the nominee, there will be a "Tea Party" candidate in the general election. I will vote for that candidate and I imagine many here will as well.

I have never bashed a Republican candidate for president in my lifetime. But if Mitt Romney is the candidate, I will be going after him vigorously for the entire campaign season. I know I'm not the only one.

A known enemy like Obama as president we can survive.

A false friend like Romney, we can't survive.

your shouting that in a closet. get out on other forums and shout it loud, shout it often and maybe it will help.

Excellent advice. I make it a point to refute any pro-Romney blatherings I hear from my FaceBook friends. And it's an easy task because they often know almost nothing about the guy.

You can generally turn a Romney supporter into a fire-breathing Romney opponent in about a minute if the person is a sincere conservative.

Don’t forget about the other races! Reps., Senators, state and federal. Just leave President blank or write in a name. But please go vote for the other offices.

Good point.

I agree. There is nearly zero difference between how Romney would govern and how BHO would govern so why bother.

The major difference is that the GOP would get more conservative under Obama, whereas under Romney, conservatives would be run out of the party. Especially social conservatives.

Thanks for your input. Can you elaborate on the details?

I didn't say Santorum was a “good” Republican.

I said we need to seriously vet him against the other potential GOP candidates now.

Santorum and Cain are the only two candidates I am considering now, that don't make me barf in my mouth.
I would rather know all the negatives beforehand of both candidates, before I decide.
Cain will be hard to judge, because I don't have that much time to listen to ALL of his radio show comments, if I can even get to all of them.
Santorum is a bit harder to judge, because I have to understand his voting choices, given the number of yes or no legislative votes he is on record for casting.

And yes, backing someone like Specter against Toomey is not a tick on the positive side for Santorum...so I hear.
But since I have no real knowledge regarding the merits of Specter vs Toomey, it's not a real big negative for me right now.
After all, certain elements of the GOP still hate that Scott won, and Crist not only failed to gain the GOP nomination as a Republican, but he also failed to screw up the electorate as an “Independant” spoiler candidate.
Crist was always, ever and only a RINO, and he deeply resented Republicans who noticed that.
Oh well!
I won't disregard Santorum out of hand, since for all I know, Toomey was more a “Crist’ candidate, and possibly even worse than Specter.

Can we vet him now?

McCain was the last RINO I will ever vote for. I’m not looking for a “purist.” There are several folks out there I would vote for (Herman Cain being one of them) and I don’t agree with any of them 100%. But I will only go so far. Romney will never get my vote in either a primary or the general election.

“this country can survive for four more years.”

I would like to hope you are right. But I don't think we will survive another four years.

Voting is not an exercise in futility..get a grip. Of course there is fraud..but we don't have to worry about being shot while casting a vote or dipping our fingers in blue ink. Treasure what we have.

possibly be Zer0). Vote.

Newt’s baggage is nothing compared to Romney’s.

No question. Repub elites of course, carry Mitt's bags for him; and expect the rest of us, to do the same. Am hoping that there is, eventually (soon), a majority of Repubs that will change this agenda.

Newt is the closest one to Wm. F. Buckley as a debater. Still a thousand miles away, but the closest one.
