Will tea party purists back imperfect Romney? (MSM says Tea Partiers can't win without Romney)
Communist News Network ^ | 2011-10-14 | Gloria Borger

After watching the GOP presidential debate the other night, it was hard to avoid this conclusion: Mitt Romney looks more and more like the GOP presidential nominee. He's the best debater. He's got his issues and his rejoinders down pat. He brushes away his opponents like lint on his lapel. And all with such ease.

That said, there's a teensy problem he just can't seem to beat: Conservatives don't like him. Or trust him. Or really want him to be the GOP nominee.

Sure, you say, Republicans never like their nominees, and they still manage to vote for them. There is truth to that: At this point in 2007, John McCain was still at 17% in the polls. Eventually, only Sarah Palin could make him palatable to conservatives. The Bushes were never right-wing faves. Neither were Richard Nixon or Gerald Ford. Even Ronald Reagan had candidates running to his right. And as for Bob Dole, well, he was suspect, but at least he was a war hero.

This year was supposed to be different. This was to be the time for the tea party to flourish and nominate a true believer. It's the moment, we were told, for an out-of-the-box Republican who would be against everything Barack Obama supports, like health care reform or bank bailouts.

Fine, except that Mitt Romney's Massachusetts health plan was a model for Obama (as the president fondly points out). And Romney told us during the debate that he supported the bank bailouts. ("Action had to be taken.")

If this keeps up, the tea partiers will be back at the harbor -- throwing themselves in.

Or, they can decide to suck it up and try to win.

O.K...I put on my kevlar jammies..but this is what I am beginning to believe, especially after the last debate.

Michele, the TEA party candidate, goes after all the other “contending” candidates like a chihuahua with flea itch. She never goes after Myth..who is ripe for criticism.

Maybe Myth is using her..or maybe Myth has promised her a VP spot. I'm sure that myth is savvy enough to look at past success. Like McCain tapping Sarah and having great success.

Myth maybe enough of a politician to play this game with Cain as well.

Good point. I guess I should have been more specific. I will vote, but not for the presidential candidate if Romeny is my only choice for GOP. ;-)

The only good I see coming out of mittens being the nominee is that it might finally be the death-knell that sends the grand ol’ plantation to it’s long overdue place on the political ash heap.

As for me, if mittens is nominated I’ll be voting for either a conservative third party candidate or leaving that space blank on the ballot. And I’ll do it with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.

The MSM using its usual tactics to influence who Republicans nominate.

It’s too bad they can’t read the writing on the wall.

He's the best debater.

I stopped right there. Newt is the best debater.

“However if it turns out to be so I will vote for him over Obama.”

And in the long run you’ll lose just the same.

As Rush was saying the libs and pubbie elites are terrified of the Tea Party. We are coming and will elect H Cain. Boria is a long time lib as if she want anyone other than Obama to win, She can stuff it along with Kristol and the rest.

When I turn down the sound when Mittens speaks, all I imagine is his attempt at persuading me to buy a used BMW.

Unfortunately, the RINOS have a LONG history of turning against conservative Republican nominees. “He can’t win,” is code for ‘We won’t LET him win.’

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However I will not join in on the suicide of this country. I believe Romney is far better for this country than Obama. It you guys want to join the suicide pack so be it. I will choose another route.

Remember that when you read the posts by Perry supporters here too. Its the M.O. of the establishment republicans. They are here in force trying to tip the scales once again.

Many of us saw it before Perry even got into the race. Its so easy to pick out now once you have been through a couple of election cycles with these turkeys.

I don't think Newt is without flaw..none of them are.

I want to beat Obama, period. Newt could out debate O any day, with one brain cell tied behind his back. I really don't see that quality in the other candidates. I would vote for NEARLY anyone running for the nomination over O.

A Republican Senate and Congress (my focus today) will keep in check any weirdness.

In the beginning, I really didn't consider Newt. But seeing the debates..I'm not sure I will vote for him at the point...but I have time to decide.

Mr. Cain is excellent as well, but, as I said..I'll give things time.

You are a free American. It is your right and your duty to vote for your conscience.

No hatin’ from me.

IMHO, Romney would finish off this nation and the Republican party. Obama would drive more people to the Conservative cause.

I believe that America can survive another 4 years of Obama.

But the nation will not survive the loss of the Conservative Republican (Tea) party.

Cain won’t be effective is solid blue states, but neither will Romney. But, if Cain were to just peel off 5-9% of the black vote he’d turn every purple state.

That’s got to terrify Obama.

You need to reconsider my FRiend. Do your research and you will see the light. Just do it for yourself and your family. If you find out who Romney really is you will thank yourself before you make a grave mistake.

LOL, I saw it as an eleven year old kid when Ronald Reagan ran against George Christopher for governor of California in 1964. Back then they were saying Reagan was "too conservative to win," or, "A vote for Reagan is a vote for Brown."

Nothing has changed in that respect.
