If the Republican primary is now a Mitt Romney-vs.-Herman Cain contest, Romney has an ace up his sleeve: One of his top advisers has run a winning campaign against Cain before.
Not many in politics can make that claim. In his only real previous try for elected office, Cain ran in Georgia's 2004 GOP Senate primary, coming in second to now-Sen. Johnny Isakson.
Back then, Romney strategist Stuart Stevens was a consultant to Isakson. Of Cain, Stevens recalls: "He scared the heck out of us."
Cain's 2004 candidacy positioned him to the right of an establishment candidate distrusted by the base, particularly on social issues. Sound familiar?

Well, if he scared you guys then, you better run for the hills now... because Hermie is a fast learner!
Positioned to the right of an establishment candidate sounds like a good thing to me.
Thank goodness Cain never made it to Senate. He would have eventually gotten corrupted there...like EVERYONE else. He can now come into presidency as a clean outsider, without having been bought, in DC or in Austin.
The premise of this story is like the establishment idiots wanting us to judge Christopher Columbus in his time as if he were living in today’s PC world.
The establishment just cannot get its arms wrapped around the fact that the Rubicon has been crossed and they are still on the other side.
Too bad Cain isn't still pushing the Fair Tax (which isn't "regressive"). If he was I would probably be on the Cain Train now. But I can't support adding a sales tax without repealing the income tax at the same time. He claims the 999 plan is a first step towards a Fair Tax, but things don't work that way in DC. If they get both taxes, they will never get rid of either one.
So let’s get this straight. Eternal Candidate, Mitt Romney is trumpeting the fact that his campaign director once defeated Herman Cain?
That speaks volumes.
Isakson is a RINO’s RINO. I voted for Cain in 2004 and since he lost we have had to contend with Johnny Isakson voting for one horrendous piece of legislation after another not to mention hopping on board the Bush Amnesty bandwagon along with our other illstrious RINO senator Saxby Chambliss. Cain would have been so much better.
Herman Cain, el más conservador, el más seguro, más carisma, sólo científico de cohetes en funcionamiento, exitoso hombre de negocios, hombre de familia, devota, tienes mi voto!
I campaigned for Cain back in 04 and the old boy network was very strong here in Georgia but that was some time before the tea party was a factor.Issacson was scared so he tacked right and was re-elected.Chambliss will get his ass handed to him next time and he knows it.

So what is this? Do we now have to press 1 for English on FR too?
The Fair Tax would have had the same effect.
lol puleez....is that annoying or what!
just click on this link and translate in a second or two..
And....there must be a several people on FR who understand Spanish? I can’t speak Spanish, but wanted to express solidarity with Spanish speaking conservatives.
Herman Cain, the more conservative, safer, more charisma, only operational rocket scientist, a successful businessman, family man, devout, got my vote!
Yo quiero Herman Cain !
Yep he lost to Isakson 53 - 26 with Collins coming in 3rd in the 2004 GA senator race.
Yo no quiero Herman Cain !
usted señor, es un hombre sabio!
