Ron Paul is a single issue visionary who is hampered by being a whack job on everything but fiscal and monetary policy.

BTW, if we cut $1 Trillion from the deficit, we’ll still be running $300 Billion in the red.

I take it you didn't read my post carefully or bother to read Paul's budget.

From my posst:"Here's Paul's proposed budget. It has not been discussed much and is a great starting point for discussion. Not only save $1 trillion first year, but exempts veterans and seniors. The problem is it would take politicians with the guts to implement it."

What part of "eliminating five cabinet departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education), abolishing the Transportation Security Administration " don't you like?

ChurtleDawg,

You are presenting false alternatives, to wit, cut veteran’s benefits & SS or we all die, while dismissing cuts that would save hundreds of billions per year.

Are you aware of the liberal use of ‘entitlement’ programs given to illegal, and anchor babies, brand new immigrants and their respective extended families or do you just choose to ignore it?

$8 Billion per year to educate red chinese students, hundred of billions for illegals, ten of billions for brand new working immigrant, $100 million in foreign anti-pollution grants, an unknown amount to set CDC labs globally, $1,600 per Mexican truck from the EPA, Billions in tax credits from the IRS for illegals, $100,000 per team in the solar decathlon from the dept of energy, etc, etc, etc,. Pretty soon it all starts adding up.

show me where the US fed Gov spends 8 billion educating china. please.

and please explain where the Fed Gov spends “hundreds of billions” on illegal alien benefits annually. The ENTIRE NON-DEFENSE discretionary budget of the US Government is only about 500 Billion

if you want to cut the cost and size of government, it isn’t just someone else’s benefits that get cut.

I can look at the pictures all night and day, but it doesn’t change the fact that even after the changes, military veterans (the majority who have never been in actual front line combat and the vast majority never wounded in battle) will still have far better benefits than most people. 200$ for a year of healthcare? that ain’t that much. Most people pay far more than that

Has the military budget or the VA budget been cut in the last few years? nope.

and you are lucky you get a pension at all. And you are going to get this up in arms because you might have to pay like 1/10 of what other people have to pay for for health insurance?

Excellent post!!!!!!! one of the best ever. People forget the small wages a young recruit makes or even a non commissioned officer in comparison to govt or federal civillians. They take the small wages in order to have their well earned perks. None of us would be posting or enjoying our freedoms if the military did not pay the price yet they among the first to be cut. What about federal employees? congress? all other govt workers? and why should any illegal get the same care as a veteran? for free?

I'm lucky to get a pension?
I gave up 20 years of freedom serving my country, and you call that luck?

Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.

Consider yourself the lucky one, compadre. Hasta la vista.

lol. I have been accused of hating veterans because I’d give them what was promised when they signed up, heh. Of course I wouldn’t cut anything from veterans until the government is at least 50% smaller.

Re Chinese students:
One
Two
Three

Re cost of illegals:
This is a very carefully, cautiously done study that calcucates the Net cost using a very outdated number of 13 million illegals. The current number is close to three times that. Conclusion: 13 million illegals cost us taxpayers net $ 113 Billion per year. Approximately 3 x that = net ~$ 339 billion per year.
study

Heritage study showing low skill immigrants cost 90 billion per year in 2004: study
4.5 million low skilled immigrant household @ net cost of ~ 20,000 per household. [see chart A6 for summary]

immigrants cost 1/5 federal deficit
Illegals, immigrants, and deficit

I wish they would return the Coast Guard to the Treasury department instead of the stupid TSA.

Revenue in 2011 is expected to be $2,425,725 million.

2011 costs in millions,

Department of Defense-Military $723,703
Department of Health and Human Services $926,236
Interest on Treasury Debt Securities (Gross) $464,706
Social Security Administration $789,034

Comes to $2,903,679 million. With those three programs alone we have a $477,954 millon deficit. Note this does not even count necessary programs like federal prisons and the like.

Good luck with the discussion. The 47% of Americans getting a government check think they earned it or deserve it. The whole monetary system is going to have to blow up. When conservatives can’t agree on cutting the benefits that affect themselves, certainly no moderate or liberal will.

My proposal for the budget would be to cut everything (with exception of the military) back to 1940 levels....

That would mean every agency that came after 1940 would be eliminated.

I’d also eliminate all of these different commissions.

WOW! That would do it.

I will NOT support any candidate for any office who does not support full veteran and retiree benefits. It could be my own Dad, and I’d given him a thumbs down.

That is why I can not stand Appeasement Paul or any Democrat. They think we need little or no military to keep us safe. Bullies do not confront someone more powerful than them. Our enemies are much more apt to attack if they think we are weak.

The funny thing is that I can’t stand ron paul, and his sheeple have labeled me as a big government statist despite the fact that I would like to roll things back further than they do.

To add to my plan, the remaining civil agencies remaining would be trimmed and realigned to match the smaller federal footprint.

I’d also push for term limits for the house and senate. The senate would be limited to two terms, and the house to six giving each no more than 12 years. Along with the term limits they would have a cap on their benefits, and a ban on lobbying after leaving office.

I’d also end federal employee unions.

For the military, I’d reinstate production of the F-22 for a full roster of 800+ aircraft to completely replace the ancient F-15 (including the F-15E).

Return to a 700 ship navy, and 24 active Army divisions. Do away with the Stryker, and set the Army up along the lines of how the Cavalry Regiments are set up.

There will be standardized equipment for the military, and there will be a rigid acquisition process that include rigorous field testing for land based systems, as well as fly offs for aircraft. That way the best equipment wins as opposed to whoever has the best lobbyists and political connections.

I’d also create a Foreign Legion to be used exclusively for peacekeeping and humanitarian missions so our active military isn’t used for mundane missions as they were during the 90’s. The Foreign Legion would be made up of those who seek citizenship

The active military would be used along the southern border.
