Before Rubio gets destroyed here for saying something quite sensible, let me say that there is just one way to demand the attention of the political class: threaten to vote them out and follow through on it.
Nasty rhetoric means nothing to them if they're convinced they can win re-election.
No...it's NOT senscile.
Tip-toeing around to garner Latino support for the parasites crossing DAILY is not "sensible"; it's POLITICAL RHETORIC that ignores the problem.
Now, that said, I believe Military presence along the border, an electrified fence (as Cain suggested), and claymores should slow down the influx, coupled with Nation-wide denial of ALL benefits afforded Citizens of the USA, unless you are a Citizen.
To late for that.
This thread is full of the politically tone deaf. Sensible is not allowed. The old adage, You catch more flies with honey than vinegar is lost on them.
There's probably a few racists masquerading as law-and-order types too.

I like Rubio. But had we not gotten loud and nasty after the 2004 election, our R president, John McCain and the democrats were going to cram amnesty down our throats. The only thing that stopped them was the acrimony. We had just voted most of them in. And they were going to do what over 70% of the public did not want them to do and figure we’d forget about it by 2008. That’s the way they work and why citizens have to yell, sometimes.
