Then why is he in the Greek Orthodox Church? Last time I heard, Eastern Orthodoxy is prolife and pro-marriage as Jesus defined it in Matthew 19:4-6.

Exactly. My guess is that becoming (nominally) Greek Orthodox was his most extreme way of rebelling against his fundamentalist Christian roots. The G.O. part means nothing to him; it's just his anarchist way of contemptuously thumbing his nose at the faith of his father.

At the time that he converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, Franky Schaeffer expressed himself as wanting the Mass and the full range of sacraments. IIRC, this would have been quite in conflict with the views of his father. I believe his father was dead when he converted. I suspect he is no longer practicing the Eastern Orthodox Faith. To suggest that the protestors occupy Catholic and Evangelical Churches makes it highly likely that he has abandoned faith in God altogether.

It is safer to assume that he had specific and respectable reasons for becoming Eastern Orthodox, reasons that had to do with the differences between Evangelical faith and practice and Orthodox faith and practice. Likewise, it is safer to assume that he has specific reasons (perhaps not respectable ones) for his current shenanigans.

If he had been a Catholic, as I am, or Orthodox, I would not assume that his current apostasy was aimed at hurting someone's feelings. Likewise, Evangelicals ought not take it personally. People leave our respective Churches, each for his/her own reasons all the time. Many return. His father was certainly a remarkable man. Maybe he will return to the Evangelical Faith when his current problems are resolved.

Love Frankie Schaeffer in spite of his faults and pray that God will grant him the graces and that Frankie will accept them to serve God's plans for him, plans which have to be better than yours or mine.
