US DOE Inspector General Testifies: "Energy stimulus program plagued by problems"

U.S. Department of Energy official testifies to committee:

Energy stimulus program plagued by problems

The Department of Energy’s inspector general said Wednesday that the 2009 stimulus program for green energy was so at odds with the realities on the ground that it was akin to “attaching a lawn mower to a fire hydrant.”

Inspector General Gregory Friedman, testifying to the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s panel on stimulus oversight, outlined a range of problems, from a flood of $35 billion in stimulus money that overwhelmed the department’s $27 billion annual budget to weatherization programs of such shoddy quality that more than half of those audited failed inspection because of substandard workmanship.

Elliot Lewis, assistant inspector general for the Labor Department, told the panel that problems also plagued training programs for green jobs that were allocated nearly $500 million. Of the roughly 125,000 workers eligible for training, only 40 percent received it and only 8,035 participants landed jobs.

OK. Now, I’ve used many a lawnmower on hundreds of lawns in my past, and have seen tens of thousands of fire hydrants in just as many lawns and streets and sidewalks.

But I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that supposedly “college-educated” US government employee was thinking when he used that analogy of “trying to attach a lawnmower to a fire hydrant” .... 8<)

It is analogous to "Shovelling shit against the tide ..."

...“trying to attach a lawnmower to a fire hydrant”

I have to think of Alice in Wonderland:

`You couldn't deny that, even if you tried with both hands.'

`I don't deny things with my hands,' Alice objected.

`Nobody said you did,' said the Red Queen. `I said you couldn't if you tried.'

I think he meant it made no sense.

However, you could probably power a lawn mower from a fire hydrant. if you put a hydraulic motor in a riding lawnmower, and attached a long enough fire-hose — you could operate the mower with the hydraulic pressure from the hydrant. You would also be watering the lawn as you went along -- kind of a twofer. It makes about as much sense as some of the funded green energy projects — but, it might actually work.

the quote should have said a lawn hose to a fire hydrant, not a lawn mower.

"Energy stimulus program plagued by problems"

Unfortunately the White House is dealing with people who have little experience in money laundering, graft and embezzlement. They're bound to overlook something.

True, true. that's probably what he meant.

But that's not what was quoted by the so-very qualified government employee; nor what was written by the supposedly college-oh-so-over-educated writer either. 8<)

No, not exactly.

The White House is used to the utterly corrupt Chicago (democrat/union/mob/socialist) Way of total corruption being totally ignored by the totally-democrat Mainstream Media. They have never before needed to be experienced in real money laundering and effective coverups .. .

Their corruption and petty (grand mal?) theft has always been ignored by their media in the past.

“attaching a lawn mower to a fire hydrant.”

A more accurate description would be attaching a group of thieves to the taxpayers’ wallets.

Other articles have the quote as "attaching a lawn hose to a fire hydrant".
