They said the same thing about illegals getting drivers licenses. There would be a system to track them and ID them.Someone has to explain this one: precisely how is an illegal alien driving in Manassas on a suspended license?

A Manassas man faces DUI charges after police said they stopped his car for a traffic infraction in Manassas on Saturday afternoon.

Officers pulled over Guillermo Galicia in the area of Byrd Drive and Beech Place, in the Georgetown South neighborhood, at 3:10 p.m. and reportedly determined that he was driving while intoxicated, Manassas police Sgt. Eddie Rivera said.

Galicia, 34, of 9423 Taney Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while suspended and was cited for no use of seatbelts with a juvenile, Rivera said.

He is being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center and will be turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers after criminal proceedings are complete, police said.

Most likely it was an illegal who over stayed his VISA. But still, the system we have now, or rather the system we don't have now sucks. It prevents anyone but the Feds to enforce immigration but it never leaves the feds accountable. The states always end up paying for it. An enforcement system that would allow local cops access to immigration status and give them enforcement options is what Perry is asking for. Instead all we've got is either cut them loose to continue to violate our laws or house them in our jails at our expense.

Also, even when we do turn them over to the Feds they still most likely get released anyway with a court date that no one will enforce and can be over 5 years later.

The main reason is that we don’t live in a police state and are only asked for our papers when the policeman has probable cause or reasonable suspicion (or whatever the lawyer’s jargon is) that a(nother) crime has been or was being committed.

Nevertheless, Texas passed our no-drivers’ license for illegals this year - since the legislature only meets every 2 years for 4 months, it takes a while to get a law through - another reason Texas is great.
