Texas Dems: Perry Puts Tea Party Ahead of Teachers
Insurance News Net ^ | November 3, 2011 | Texas Democratic Party

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 3 -- The Texas Democratic Party issued the following news release:

According to data released by the Health and Human Services Department in October, retired teachers and retired state employees in Texas have been among the biggest beneficiaries of the early retirement provision of the health care law. The Teacher Retirement System of Texas received $70,629,796 from the feds to offer health insurance to early retirees, and the Employees Retirement system of Texas received $30,175,627. These two state entities are among the top 25 beneficiaries of this provision of the health care law in the country. More than 100 entities in Texas (public and private) have received financial assistance for their early retiree reinsurance programs.

Rebecca Acuna, spokesperson from the Texas Democratic Party, released the following statement:

"Rick Perry continues to spew anti-federal government rhetoric even as Texas cashes in.

Despite the clear benefits of the heath care law to Texans, Rick Perry continues to pledge to repeal the law. This is another example of Perry putting his personal political aspirations ahead of the interests of Texans. He's willing to hurt our state's retired teachers in order to score political points with Tea Party extremists."

In Texas Schools, Perry Shuns Federal Influence

The Obama Administration's Lone Star Mistake ("a swing and a miss" at Rick Perry) (facts w/ charts)

Faculty Lounge - A tale of Sherpas and superstars [Perry's Higher Education Reform] ….”What Governor Perry actually proposed was this: 1) Students’ evaluations and some other information about faculty performance should be made public; 2) The best teachers should receive bonuses, based in part on students’ ratings; 3) The research and academic budgets should be separated, with teachers paid according to their teaching duties and researchers paid in proportion to the funding they attract; 4) Faculty should have to show that they can in fact teach before they are granted tenure; 5) Students should receive a personalized “learning contract” upon enrollment, along with information about the graduation rates and average starting salaries for students with the same major and comparable SAT scores; 6) Legislative appropriations should go to students directly rather than to the universities; 7) The universities should support an effort to develop a new national accreditation program that would evaluate institutions on measurable student progress.

You’d think that No. 6 would be the deal-breaker — it would have voucherized higher education, forcing the universities to compete for students and the dollars they bring with them, rather than treating students like not-entirely-welcome guests who are privileged to be at the party. But the reformers didn’t even make it that far down the list: No. 1 sent academia into fits.”……

“Early retirement” costs the taxpayers even MORE but the unions still call it a “cut” when teachers and others are offered early retirement while the politicians can pretend it is to save us money.

And illegals ahead of everything else.

Nov 3, 2011: AP: ......"Perry said in an interview with CNN's John King on Thursday that expectations that U.S. authorities are going to arrest and deport up to 15 million illegal immigrants isn't realistic. He added, however, that other Republicans, including fellow Texan George W. Bush, went too far when they previously proposed an immigration overhaul that included a path to citizenship.

The Texas governor also claimed his chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney, had once supported amnesty. Romney has drawn criticism for hiring a lawn care company that employed illegal immigrants at his family's property in a Boston suburb for a decade — but has also said amnesty is not appropriate for illegal immigrants.

"You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens," Perry said. "And I think that's where McCain, that's where Romney, that's where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, 'we're going to give amnesty to these individuals,' and people just said, 'no, we're not.'".....Source

What is this freeloading deal doing in a health care law?

The gov. employees should not receive any more than minimum wage. They should never make more than those who are forced to pay for them.

In my heart, if so many innocent people wouldn't be hurt by it, I'd love to see an economic collapse for a short period of time. All these freeloaders would be off the dole, and we could start over - learning from the mistakes we made this time. No more free rides. People would be responsible for themselves again - as it should be.
Maybe this is coming anyway, because the socialists have once again used up others peoples earnings. Maybe it's the great cleansing so many have predicted for generations. Who knows.
Somehow, the free ride has to stop. It's unsustainable. The grasshoppers have outnumbered the ants. There aren't enough tax slaves left to bake the bread.

Yep, it sure is "Good for him."

And to stay in step with the CAIN people, it's time to send Perry some CAMPAIGN MONEY.

I’m not donating to anyone yet. We have a teenage son who just got his driver’s license, and spare dimes (except for donation to FR ;-) are going to his insurance.

I’d put my local garbage collectors ahead of the teacher’s union.

Those garbage collectors perform a useful function - without which, I’d be suffering.

The teacher’s union performs no useful function, without which I’ve have 1) better educated children, and 2) more money in my pocket.

Shove it up your smelly collective Obamas, NEA. One can get an “education” degree inside a box of Cheerios.

As he should. Has anyone seen the kind of teachers these universities are putting out? I've happened to work with a few of them while they worked part-time at my job. Let me tell you, you do not want these people teaching your children!! Their morals and hateful attitudes are a disgrace. They will tell you that the only reason they chose this career is for the perks and benefits, not to teach little parasites.

You must be on drugs. There is no way I would send Perry a penny. Illegal lover Perry should just do America a favor and drop out. He is a complete and utter embarrassment to the United States of America.

I’m not looking forward to Christmas this year. I regularly go to my sister’s house on Christmas Eve, and they’re both huge Dems. Worse, my bro-in-law is a retired public school teacher. I haven’t visited lately, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a huge “Repeal Walker” sign in their front yard.
