It may be time for California to formally apply for membership in the European Union. Its taxing, borrowing and regulatory policies are already more in line with the southern tier of Euroland than with other U.S. states, and the Golden State has taken another lurch in the Euro-direction by becoming the first jurisdiction in the nation to adopt a full-scale cap-and-trade tax to combat global warming. The new taxes and regulations will require a nearly 30% reduction in carbon emissions from power plants, manufacturers, cars and trucks by 2020.
This green tax was signed into law in 2006 by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger when the state's economy was flying high. California was going to be the green role model for other states. Now no one believes that fantasy. Ten states in the Northeast entered a regional cap and trade compact to limit greenhouse gases in 2008, but that market is now dying if not dormant and states (recently New Jersey) are dropping out.
In 2006 it also seemed plausible that the federal government would establish national carbon caps. But in 2010 the Democratic Senate killed cap and trade, and there is no chance anytime soon this tax will be implemented in Washington.
So California will go it alone on cap and trade. The economic fallout won't be pretty. Nearly every independent analysis agrees that water, electricity, construction and gas prices inside the state will rise. The only debate is about how much.
A 2009 study by the California Small Business Roundtable estimated costs of $3,857 per household by the end of the decade. Gasoline prices, already near the highest in the nation, could rise by another 4% to 6%. An analysis by the state's own Legislative Analyst's Office found that the higher costs of doing business would mean "leakage of jobs,"

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the California taxpayers for “savin’ da planet” for us. Good job!
California is the best in the nation when it comes to running business out of the state. They will go deeper in debt and place this debt at the doorstep of every home owner and citizen who is left in the state. Socialism is taking over the state.
California is facing bankruptcy and its next move to is drive tens of thousands of jobs and businesses out of the state.
Who wants the hassle of complying with more government red tape? Other states that don’t have cap and trade rules are going to profit at California’ expense.
Cap and trade is going to make Obamacare look like chump change when all is said and done.
CA needs to leave the Union. If it takes a reverse civil war to do it, it's worth the price. We can still trade with the state, but its mountain of congressional representatives and two socialist senators have poisoned the US. I remember a time when CA was solidly Republican, but that time has past.

For the last thirty years.Ford,GM and Chrysler had to pull out in the 70”s.California has no business plan it has a extortion plan.Socialism still in the fail pit.

We are winning the fight against Global Warming!
According to Rutgers University Global Snow Lab, since 1967 three of the four snowiest winters in the Northern Hemisphere have occurred in the last four years.

The funniest part of the article is the union guy complaining that jobs will be lost. Well, Mr. Union guy, YOU INSTALLED THESE ANIMALS that are doing this to you.
Global Warming on Free Republic
We will end up sending more federal aid to California in sneaky ways. It won’t be in one huge allotment. It won’t be ostensibly for debt reduction. It will instead be for “infrastructure” and “medical care” and “education”, and a dozen other liberal excuses.
But, of course, any additional aid sent to California for any purpose whatever is really just a way for Democrats in Washington to keep the Democrat majority in California happy and to help them pay for their extravagance. It is in fact federal aid for leftist California programs.
Woo hoo! Send us your jobs, Kommie-Kali, we know what to do with them! (Keep the people though, they'd probably vote the straight National Socialist ticket over here just like they did over there)
But that doesn’t disprove GW, or even AGW. In fact, an increase in snowy winters is predicted by AGW theory, as are fewer snowy winters, more hurricanes, fewer hurricanes, more rain, less rain, hotter summers, and gout!
