Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has already picked up steam among Republican primary voters nationwide, and now he jumps to the front of the GOP pack among caucus-goers in Iowa.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers shows Gingrich with 32% followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 19%. Georgia businessman Herman Cain, who led in Iowa last month, drops to third with 13% of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul draws 10% of the vote in Iowa, while Texas Governor Rick Perry and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann each grab six percent (6%). Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum draws support from five percent (5%) of caucus-goers while former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman picks up two percent (2%). Only one percent (1%) would prefer some other candidate and six percent (6%) more are undecided.
This is the first caucus survey conducted entirely after last week's GOP debate on foreign policy. Cain also recently fumbled a response to the administration's actions in Libya.

All the 0 campaign will have to do if Newt is our nominee is run this clip in the swing states the last week in Oct 2012.
It’s possible that Republicans in Iowa are beginning to face reality, as I have. There is no perfect candidate, there’s not even a very good candidate. I think, I hope, I pray, that Gingrich can win, and is up to the task.
Well, I’d say people are looking for an intelligent, articulate conservative candidate with knowledge and experience. Now let’s see if GOP Central is looking for the same thing.

Gingrich would be a disaster of collosal proportions. More reasons why Iowa should not be allowed to have this first in the nation caucus.
With the lengthy nomination process and endless debates, all the candidates are damaged to some extent. I'm tired of the BS that when a candidate misuses a pronoun that they are done. We HAVE To get rid of Obama, period.

We get it. You don’t want Newt at the top. But spamming that isn’t helping your cause.

That is the number one goal. There isn’t a GOP candidate who wouldn’t be better than Obama. And I’ll vote for whoever is nominated.
Gingrich has experience, and at times, has governed as a conservative. (He also will go off the reservation without warning).
Gingrich can dismantle Obama in a debate. And, something that is overlooked, Gingrich can inspire. I’ve heard Gingrich speak and at times he can really move you.
One poll shows Cain ahead, this poll shows Gingrich way ahead. At least Romney isn’t in first I suppose.

For others: I see Cain is a good man and if he must lose, I for one do not want him to lose bad. I just want him to come in second.
The day before another poll had Cain at 24% and Gingrich at 4.6%.
Come Monday we will have another poll with another frontrunner.
After seeing it posted however many times, I finally listened to it. It’s a good interview. No idea where the supposedly devastating sound-bite is.
We won’t know what’s really going on until real votes are cast. The media and these polls are attempting to influence votes. I think the people are way ahead of them. I pray the old games of getting the people to settle on the most moderate candidate a la Ford, Dole, McCain, Romney are over.
Amen to that.

Well if Romney is the front runner the media will do the same hatchet job on him. I think Newt is smarter than Romney so better Newt’s baggage than Romney’s. Unfortunately Cain keeps making verbal gaffes! He may continue to hang in there though.
I will vote for Newt specifically because of your posts.
The reason I ask is that Obama has a record of destroying his competition by changing the rules to disqualify his opponents. He did that on numerous occasions in Chicago politics.
So, is Obama even required to debate his opponent? As incumbent, I wouldn't be surprised that he would first try to change the debate rules to favor himself; and, if he couldn't get that accomplished, use that as an excuse not to debate at all. I doubt his constituency would care and all those “independents” aren't going to pay much attention until the last minute; so, they could likely be swayed by a last minute media blitz ...and it's not hard to find a wealth of negative info on Newt; the Dems probably already have an encyclopedic collection.
