Confederate flag issue in Elizabethton deepens; flag stolen, replaced (Elizabethton, TN) Video

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- The battle over a confederate flag at an Elizabethton cemetery wages on...and this time, the Sons of Confederate Veterans are on the defensive.

The group filed a police report Sunday after they said someone stole their flag.

A member of the group says they've since put up a new, more recognizable confederate flag at Green Hill Cemetery in the other flag's absence.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans held a ceremony to dedicate the previous flag last month in recognition of lieutenant Robert J. Tipton and three other confederate veterans buried there.

The Watauga Historical Association fought that effort, saying Green Hill is not a military cemetery...and should not be home to a large, confederate flag.

Elizabethton Police say they currently have no leads in this case.

What business does such a large rebel flag have in Elizabethton, Tennessee anyway? Carter County voted 1343 to 86 to stay in the Union! This time I think the SCV is reaching too far and should be satified with placing small flags on the graves.

Does that mean a larger flag?

It sounds like the SCV is playing a game of “in your face” here more than an honoring of four men.

Next time the tender conscience concerned people could steal the Confederate grave markers instead. That is how it was done originally. Poor apostate Puritans. So many cultures to extinguish and so little time. Truly there is no rest for the wicked.

I don't think it's inappropriate for the SCV to put small flags on the rebs' graves, but I think it's an insult to the memory of all the Carter County men who fought for the Union to put such a large reb flag like it was Confederate territory. A lot of local men fought and suffered to rid Carter County of the Confederate invaders,

Some of those people fought on the Confederate side and died but were buried in the cemetery. There’s nothing wrong with that flag since it was a battle flag, not the Confederate States flag.

Here we go again. Another battle over the Confederacy. So what, the damn Yankees won the FIRST battles. Look what it got us. Lincoln “freed” the slaves; 0bambi makes us all slaves.

But if hadn’t been for Lincoln and his cause, we would not have waited for Mr. Obama to try to finish off the USA. We’d have been ruined a long time ago.

Does that mean a larger flag?

Twice the stars? Double the bars?

From the look of things, it may just mean a lot higher and, yeah, a little bigger.

That hungry crow in the video looked pretty suspicious.

And it looks like this guy may collect flags or something:

What’s stopping union sympathizers from placing a flag of their choice in the cemetery?

What business does such a large rebel flag have in Elizabethton, Tennessee anyway?

Because it's part of the South?

Carter County voted 1343 to 86 to stay in the Union!

They were overruled by the whole State!

This time I think the SCV is reaching too far and should be satified with placing small flags on the graves.

Perhaps those brave deceased Southrons should roll over in their graves, raise their bottoms up to display the proper solute to Lincoln. Then we all will witness what you do best... kissing Southern ass. :)

Why not put the United States of America flag out instead. Either you are part of America or your not. You guys were complaining when Mexicans try to use their flag and you guys are trying to do the same thing. Get with America!!!!! American Flag or nothing.

It's funny though you are maybe historically accurate that Carter county was majority Unionist...at least that is the conventional wisdom today. The political leadership[of that corner of east TN in the war was Unionist...no question of that.

Today CSA sentiment runs very high in Appalachian TN...Southern flags everywhere...you are likely to see more CSA flags there than anywhere I have been except on the car tags of my home state.

I owned property one county to the east in Ashe county North Carolina for many years and know the area well.

It is very socially conservative, extremely white and hence sympathetic to Southerness.

I'll be you the problem is actually this Watauga Historical Outfit opposing them. I'll wage they have more than a few academic types on their board many of whom are likely not from the South.

I know it pains you but south of Northern Virginia, the mountainous South is truly very very southern and embraces all the old vestiges symbolically anyhow and identifies with that...not so much with the Unionism you accurately described from history..

North Carolina is the same way except Asheville which is highly lesbian and leftist and the resort areas like Banner Elk-Beech-Sugar-Blowing Rock which in summer become very Florida oy vey.

The resort areas to the sw of Appalachia like Cashiers, Highlands, Blue Ridge etc stay southern as a rule even in summer.

Your admonishments are only self serving btw. The Yankees who fought in that was and sacrificed and watched their pals die by the 100s of 100os invading my homeland had no problem coming south after the war for the remainder of their lives and commemorating the valor year and after year with each other's flags in all their glory and uniforms and whatnot. Commanders of each side traveled long distances to honour each other in death. Yet you and your tribe here consider southern symbolism an insult. It was not an insult to the actual northeners who fought in that war and I'll tell you what. I'll go with their judgment over your's.

btw...look up the Watuaga Historical outfit...a an association governed by the faculty of East TN State University

like I figured

you know I think ol Puroesu...zotted here last year or so and who was plain spoken on race was actually on that faculty

shame he isn’;t here to comment...he was quite the writer

i actually dug more into the association...it looks like it started out better but got PC the more the college got into it

now they get racial healing grants and stuff

they are Melungeon experts..btw

I will confess...I have never heard that term...we had folks like that where I come from....Creola Alabama and Jones County MS both have some of those folks

anyhow

Actually no. I have no problem with individual placement of con-fed flags on graves but that should be an American flag flying from the standard. I would go so far as to say I would be OK with a con-fed flag flying subordinate to the American flag.

Naturally it isn’t my cemetery and thus not my decision. I thought the wording was peculiar hence my question.

Since when did you become an opponent of the First Amendment?

My personal opinion is that you yankees detest the entire Bill of Rights, especially the Second and Tenth Amendments. After all, the Bill of Rights and the entire Constitution is a 'negative' document, right?

One of The Coven made the absurd statement on another thread that only unionists could be called 'true hillbillies'. It's just more proof that the yankees try to make the rules up as they go to support their socialist/communist agenda. The funny thing is that the yankee turd that posted that has probably never been in the Southern Blue Ridge mountains.

The resort areas to the sw of Appalachia like Cashiers, Highlands, Blue Ridge etc stay southern as a rule even in summer.

I live just south of Cashiers on the SC side and there's plenty of arrogant relocated yankees all over this area but for the most part they stay hunkered down in their gayted communities.

It was not an insult to the actual northeners who fought in that war and I'll tell you what. I'll go with their judgment over yours.

Here, here!!

These neo-yanks are nothing more than socialist, big government propagandists and apologists and useful idiots for the democrat party.

“These neo-yanks are nothing more than socialist, big government propagandists and apologists and useful idiots for the democrat party.”

They are the intellectual spawn of apostate New England, as is Bill Ayers, as is Obama. The roots of the intolerant, utopian American left do not go back to Karl Marx. They go back to Cotton Mather.

No matter. That culture is so rotted now it is deliquescent, while we still have a modicum of civilization. We will outlast them, and eventually our wetback problem will be them swimming south across the Ohio River.

Deo Vindice.
