"Gingrich favors more humane migration; Pronounces favor of illegal immigration" (TRANSLATION)
El Universal, Caracas, Venezuela (Original in Spanish rendered to English) ^ | 23 November 2011 | El Universal reporters

EL UNIVERSAL, (CARACAS, VENEZUELA) Original in Spanish "ESTADOS UNIDOS: Gingrich favorece políticas migratorias más humanas" ...

Candidato republicano se pronuncia a favor de la inmigración"

Wednesday November 23, 2011 24:08

("FREEPRANSLATION" TO ENGLISH): "Washington, D.C. - Newt Gingrich, the newest candidate in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, has run the risk of scaring the conservatives saying that favors the establishment of legal channels for illegal immigrants who have behaved peacefully, within the law paid their taxes and lived in the U.S. for many years. During a televised debate on Tuesday night, former House of Representatives Speaker said his break with the current thinking of his Party on illegal immigration and tried to capitalize recent gains in the polls, the AP reported. "I do not see how the Party that says it is the "Party of Families" will adopt an immigration policy that destroys families who have been here a quarter century,'' Gingrich said during the debate televised by CNN. "I am prepared to withstand attacks by saying that we are human in the application of the law,' 'he said. The other candidates immediately lambasted the statements and said that Gingrich supported what many in the party is an "amnesty''that would allow most or all immigrants who entered illegally stay in the country.

Many conservatives strongly oppose granting legal residency to illegal immigrants, especially from Mexico and Central America, under almost any circumstance. Mitt Romney (former governor of Massachusetts, venture capital investor and a favorite of the elites) was the one who attacked Gingrich. He argued that any path to legalization would be a magnet to make more if the to cross in illegally from Mexico.

The immigration issue has divided U.S. politicians for years. Many analysts say that Republicans run the risk of angering the rapidly growing Hispanic population, showing little sympathy for the millions of residents already in the country but with illegal status. The conservative Gingrich is near the top in the polls, but it is unclear whether he can stay there now. Beyond the questions about his divorce, extramarital affairs and business, his previous views on climate change and other issues could be seen as too moderate for some Republican conservatives." Original Spanish title of main story in English:

"UNITED STATES | Gingrich promotes humane migration policies : Gingrich is in favor of immigration: (Sub) Other candidates immediately lambasted the statements and said that Gingrich supported what many in the party is an "amnesty.""

(Translator's note: In the Spanish language press particularly in Latin America and in countries providing a large share of illegal aliens to the United States, "immigration" [migracion (sic) ] is almost always used as code in these articles on the topic to indicate and legitimize "illegal immmigration". They make no distinction between "legal" and "illegal immigration" in this regard when using this term, and often tend to report that such individuals should be treated on equal grounds. The title should accurately read in English using cultural aspects in the translation: "Gingrich promotes humane migration policies: Gingrich is in favor of illegal immigration"

For General FR discusssion and observations. El Universal is a major daily newspaper in Caracas, Venezuela, daily circulation about 150,000, generally anti-Hugo Chavez in nature (conservative/business).

HELL, NO! I don’t want someone smooching up to illegals and who thinks anchor babies becoming US citizens is the greatest thing since sliced white bread becoming our next President. I will never vote for Gingrich. His position rules him out for me as a prospective President.

Are there no leaders remaining in the G.O.P. that put their countrymen ABOVE greedy businesses that want near slave labor?

Republican voters have abandoned, Cain, Bachmann and Santorum.

So they’ll get stuck with a slobbering RINO.

Go figure.

Join the crowd, FRiend.

What an absolute disaster.

It is almost as bad as Senator Graham (S.C.) before La Raza pandering and telling them that within the GOP he was going to stand up and "tell the bigots to shut up", or other so-called GOP leaders like McCain and others lecturing the unwashed of us in flyover country from the Georgetown Cocktail Party Inner Circle, that we are not humanitarian if we don't support or turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, or somehow parce violation of federal immigration laws into arbitrary but tenuous classifications and exceptions. This is the ugly face of GOP "compassionate conservatism" and it is responsible for outright deaths for years now.

Would somebody PLEASE speak up for the tens of thousands of AMERICAN DEAD OR WOUNDED on American Soil due to illegal aliens here with impunity over the last 25, 30, 40 years?? This confirmed number eclipses even the amount of dead on September 11, 2001 (+3000) or those total US servicepeople killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

Talk about a debate on "National Security".

...paid their taxes...

If they are illegal, how are they paying "their taxes". What is the tax on a case of beer anyway?

GOP voters have spoken: They want a RINO like Romney or Gingrich.

Conservatives like Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or even Paul are spat upon and double-teamed by the democrats, media and republican establishment. There’s no hope.

No kidding.

I no longer even expect the country to EVER deport illegals.

All I ask now is that we stop encouraging them here. But apparently even that is asking too much from these coward politicians.

Why would other countries care about our policy regarding people that have been illegally living here (in the US) for the past 25 years?

If they had ties to their original countries, they have long-since ended.

...unless they see more to Newt’s pronouncements than Newt is letting on to.

Far better to find out now (even before the caucuses) than afterwards if he sewed it up and then immediately went to the "middle" to pander, in the General.

We should have learned our lesson from Johnny McCain. The guy for YEARS supports illegal immmigration, but runs into dark [conservative] clouds in the South Carolina Primary in 2008. IMMEDIATELY REVERSES HIS POSITION, goes hard line on immigration, pulls the wool over the eyes of many, shunts aside true believers like Duncan Hunter and others, and grabs a victory, only to then revert to his "default position" of being pro-illegal THE MINUTE HE RACKED UP THE NECESSARY DELEGATE TOTE NUMBERS FOR NOMINATION.

I am telling you man, not so fast this year, 2012, No WAY! Umm mmmm MMM! We gotta smoke them out often and early. This is a big ticket item for me, for bound up in it are democraphics and electoral issues which might dictate whether the Dems have power for the next 200 years due to massive illegal aliens votes, corruption and voter fraud. It is not a minor issue. It is a lynchpin issue connecting to so many other conservative issues and the very future of our Republic as we know it.

“Republican voters have abandoned, Cain, Bachmann and Santorum. So they’ll get stuck with a slobbering RINO. Go figure.”

I wouldn’t count Cain out completely, yet. Most of Newt’s support (probably 2/3’s) came from Cain (the rest from Romney). Newt has just decided to return that support to Cain (hopefully).

Our country is so far gone that normal, law-abiding Americans are now not only spat on by the leftists, but by members of the so-called opposition party. Same coin, different sides.

We expect this kind of behavior and name-calling from the Left, but it’s especially insulting when it comes from the Rs (McC, Gingrich, all the rest of them).

Yo quiero Taco Bell. Just stand by please. Believe me, there are even more timely yet scurrilous Spanish language articles in English on their way to being translated and placed on FR for general discussion about this big gaffe, and risk he took, which everyone is talking about now.

“Yawn.

Well there still are a few Newt supporters on this site that still haven’t quite figured him out. Not nearly as bad as that bimbo from Ohio who keeps pushing Perry, but still annoying. Once we put Newt next to Romney as candidates NEVER to be trusted as conservatives, then these posts will cease.

Wake up! The press is the press all around the world. It has the same BIAS....and lack of balanced truth. This is particularly true in Venezuela these days.

El Universal is NOT reliable.

Sheeeeeeshhhh...
