Welcome to Austerityville:Can a technocrat save the Michigan city that democracy failed?

To get to city hall, you drive up I-75, past the empty Silverdome where the Detroit Lions used to play, and into a nondescript concrete municipal building. The city clerk was laid off a few days ago, but the door to her office hangs open. The mayor, Leon Jukowski, gives me a brief tour of the desks where people no longer work. Cubicles sit empty, little tchotkes and calendars left behind when their owners were laid off.

“At one time we had 800, 900 city employees,” says Jukowski. “We have 150 now. And we have the same services that we always had.”

It's those evil technicians: engineers, mechanics, electricians, handymen, all. They're the secret cabal in control of the government and ruining everything for us environmental, social people. They'll steal our quasi-jobs and incomes. They must go. Let's starve them.

The political class wouldn’t do the job and now the unions and the Left want to overturn a law that’s saving places like Pontiac from disaster. In truth, the old way hasn’t worked. The city manager can make all the necessary decisions without political interference. Michigan is a state where the Left ran cities into the ground and its funny to hear it howl Act 4 is too extreme. What it needs is to be toughened up. MI’s cities can’t wait for local politicians and special interests to put the concern of the people who live in them ahead of the concerns of the privileged class. In the end, its really about saving Urban America from itself.

Maybe they should designate Pontiac as a new sort of tribal region populated by Occupiers and their form of juvenocracy.

Other minor forms to try may include: Feminocracy, domesticated and even wild animocracies.

How about a cosmocracy as a major form? Atomocracy?

The possibilities may indeed be endless.

Pontiac is a mess. In other news, the Pope is still Catholic and bears crap in the woods.
