The rallies were organised by opposition and right-wing Islamist groups in major cities of the nuclear-armed country of 167 million people, where opposition to the government's US alliance is rampant.
In Karachi, the port city used by the United States to ship supplies to troops fighting in Afghanistan, more than 700 people gathered outside the US consulate, an AFP photographer said.
They shouted: "down with America, stay away Americans, Pakistan is ours, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our army", while Pakistani riot police were deployed near the consulate.
Outside the press club in Karachi, dozens of political activists burnt an effigy of President Obama, an AFP photographer added.
I’m afraid to go to the 7-Eleven now.
I meant that in a semi-humorous way. This is a very serious incident and I’m certain Obama is not up to handling it.
P.S. Did I hear this morning that the Afghanis were the ones who ordered the NATO strike?
Who would have thought that Barry would have to extend the open hand to the clenched fist of.....one of our allies?
Thanks Dallas59. Bush’s fault. ;’)
So let me get this straight. The Kenyan lizard has lost the A-stan war by trampling on P-stan’s sovereignty and by conducting war on her territory so he can brag about getting Osama.
How long before we run out of bullets and beans and the evacuation starts?
Pakistan was never a friend of the US.
I'll give you a B+ for effort but that's not going to get you on my good side, ya muzzie trash. :-)
Unlike the Cowboy Bush, Obama has the world loving us again. Praise the Lord.
Yea? So? What’s your point?
Having the land route supply line cut is a big problem. Maybe that’s why W didn’t go cross border?
I’m for pulling out of A-stan anyway.
Where was all the global love that America was supposed to receive with the crowning of President Obama?
More Obama jive from the left wing media cheering section - now gone very stale.
I think the world liked Bush better. At least the Muslim world did? Ha-ha. How ironic?
They hate us and nothing will change that. What do you think Obama did wrong, or should be doing different regarding Pakistan?
Respecting the border?
W didn’t cross the border.
So you opposed our troops going into Pakistan and taking out Bin Laden?
Yes. Osama was irrelevant.
I don’t care much for either of our anti-defense, socialist political parties. The Pakis have been our enemies all along. We should join India in nuking, invading, occupying and denizafying that cesspool.
Policing the world is fool’s errand, be that fool a Republican or Democrat. Bring the troops home.
Obama was supposed to help America’s standing in the world. The liberal view was that America’s image in the world was tarnished because of Bush. Obama was going to change all that. Obama was going to do outreach to the Muslim world and outreach to Europe, and heal the old wounds.
I am shocked, just shocked, that we are seeing Obama burned in effigy in Pakistan.
What other positive outreach does Obama have in mind for that part of the world, to regain respect for America and our values and all that?
