'Fast and Furious' Whistleblowers Struggle Six Months After Testifying Against ATF Program
Fox News ^ | 11/30/2011 | William Lajeunesse

Six months ago, several agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stood before Congress to testify about the details of a U.S. government program that armed Mexico's largest drug cartel with thousands of assault rifles.

The administration denied it at the time and questioned the agents' integrity. The men were nervous and scared. They said they feared for their careers, their reputation and their families.

[Snip]

And while President Obama has said the operation was a mistake and that "people who screwed up will be held accountable," the record so far does not bear that out. Those in charge of the botched operation have been reassigned or promoted, their pensions intact...

Here's what has happened to the managers of the operation:

-- Acting ATF Chief Ken Melson, who oversaw the operation, is now an adviser in the Office of Legal Affairs. He remains in ATF's Washington, D.C., headquarters.

[Snip]

-- Special Agent in Charge of Phoenix Bill Newell, the man most responsible for directly overseeing Fast and Furious, was promoted to the Office of Management in Washington.

-- Phoenix Deputy Chief George Gillette was also promoted to Washington as ATF's liaison to the U.S. Marshal's Service.

-- Group Supervisor David Voth managed Fast and Furious... [Snip] ATF boosted Voth to chief of the ATF Tobacco Division, where he now supervises more employees in Washington than he ever did in Phoenix.

[Snip]

Special Agent Jay Dobyns, who is suing the agency for breach of contract, is skeptical...

[Snip]

Case in point, he said, is field agent John Dodson...[Snip]

And what did Dodson get for telling the truth? In Phoenix he was isolated, marginalized and referred to as a "nut job," "wing-nut" and "disgruntled,"...[Snip]

In Washington, ATF command ordered that "Contact with Dodson was detrimental to any ATF career."

More than even most of us realize...

Jay Dobyns, 25-year highly respected and highly decorated Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Special Agent.

Jay blows the whistle.

The results/reaction are disgustingly typical...

In addition, a U.S. Office of Special Counsel report concluded, “I note with concern the absence of any corrective measures proposed to address the failure to conduct timely and thorough investigations into the death threats made against Special Agent Dobyns. ATF does not appear to have held anyone accountable in this regard. Fully addressing the problems and failures identified in this care requires more than amending ATF policies and procedures. It requires that threats against ATF agents be taken seriously and pursued aggressively and that ATF officials at all level cooperate to ensure the timely and comprehensive investigation of threats leveled against its own agents.”

Well, Dobyns’ house was then set on fire.

And ATF has named him as a suspect:

On top of ignoring death threats, recently Dobyns’ house was set on fire at 3 a.m. with his wife, son and daughter sleeping inside in a confirmed act of arson. It is suspected members of the Hells Angels, or close associates of the gang carried out the arson in retaliation of Dobyns’ undercover work.

When Dobyns reported the incident to both ATF and Newell, he asked for an investigation into the case. Newell not only refused to investigate, calling the incident “just scorching,” but allowed his subordinates, including Gillett, to attempt to frame Dobyns, accusing him of purposely burning down his own home with his family inside, has named him as a suspect and is investigating him. Newell conspired to destroy and fabricate evidence to “prove” his case. Emails, witness testimony, phone conversations and other documentation show the ATF Phoenix Field Divisions’ intentions, led by Newell, were to frame Dobyns, yet Newell denied under oath any involvement in this activity. His subordinates Gillett and ATF Tucson Group Supervisor over Operation Wide Receiver Charles Higman, also denied any attempts to frame Dobyns under oath, despite evidence showing otherwise.

But instead of ATF leading the investigation, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department took the lead.

Well well! Sheriff Dupnik's outfit. Which promptly investigated... nothing at all.

Yea, the very same Sheriff Dupnik that spewed crap for days after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot that Gov. Sarah Palin was responsible to divert attention away from his department failing to stop the shooter when they could have EASILY done so.

It is just amazing how the sorry bastards will consistently reappear in incident after incident.

Great stuff. This is why a part of me looks forward to a total collapse of the current system- because it doesn't seem possible to correct it otherwise.

America has been so corrupted and devoid of it's original values that failure seems inevitable and collapse may be Nature's only way of fixing things.

How long could America last unmoored from it's constitution?

Hillary, Shumer, and Obama claimed 90% of weapons used by cartels were of U.S. dealer origion. It was false, so they set out to 'rig' the data so they could pass further restrictive laws against the second amendment and screw gun owners in a fashion suitable to them, and so, with lies, they created False and Furious.

America unmoored is adrift and it should not suprise anyone that she may soon run aground on the shoals of Utopia- where the wisdom of her founders has been replaced by the instincts of scoundrels who now infest her highest institutions.

A thin blue line has been replaced by a wall of rodent droppings the likes of which this country's patriots never could have imagined. Blow the whistle on this bunch and an avalanche of rat feces will tumble down to bury you.

You paint a beautiful and terrible verbal portrait of the awful mess we’re stuck with until we can get the power to clean it up again.

There is a bit I post from time to time regarding the "no hope for the libs" issue. Recently I have added a couple of lines to it that I concluded must be thought of and understood by honest American Citizens.

"Taking the high road" is rapidly becoming something to be put on the shelf for a while. It is now time to step up, get in their face and call them worthless communist bastards undeserving of a place in this Republic.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2814192/posts?page=25#25

As I see the communist agenda "liberal progressive" donks sink deeper into their power-mad mentally deranged pursuit of destroying this Republic it is obvious that putting the high road on the shelf for a while is becoming as necessary as fighting WWII.

I agree, but don't see any candidate getting close to doing that (Sarah came closest). Ann Coulter describes them well enough but stops short of calling them what they really are.

Thanks for the link. Hard to imagine 1934 was faced with exactly what we're witnessing today.

Between Chicago and the Northeast liberal colleges there's much to be said for the inroads these 'communists' have made. As you say, ridding ourselves of them may take a WWII effort.

Disarming the populace is a necessary first-step which would no doubt become a front-burner issue should Obama get a second term- or any liberal should he decide not to run. They certainly don't want to deal with the, "behind every blade of grass" problem the Japanese understood. Gun grabbing should become a high priorty soon if my instincts are correct.

Witnessing what's going on is like watching in slow-motion: a little commie sh*t here, a little more commie sh*t there, but the election of a telepromter speaker took the cake. Soul-less barely begins to describe the sanitized messages uttered by Obama. At times it feels like he's reading from Mao's little Red Book. No passion- certainly not for individual rights, just more "shared sacrifice" from anyone who might run a business or have a bank account.

History has a way of speeding things up. Unfortunately, it will take years for 'others' to see what has taken place under our noses right now. The communist takes advantage of this weakness too, by instituting things like Obamacare and putting it's implementation off by enough years to allow the stupid among us to re-elect them. "No pain, we gain" could be their motto. Yet, when the pain arrives (and it will), they'll be in control and anyone who complains will be dealt with- harshly. These people majored in Cattlecars (see 20th century).

Crashing the economy will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. That's when there'll be no turning back. Sadly for the average public employee (usefull idiot) they'll fall short on the "from each, according to their ability" list and will be the first to reap the communists' wrath. Having a redneck, gun clinging, gun-nut uncle or relative will be a considerable asset- especially if they know how to re-load.

It would be best if all of this could be avoided as you suggest: get in their face and call them worthless communist bastards undeserving of a place in this Republic. and have people respond by voting thusly. All we need is someone to carry that banner and I feel there are many who would follow it toward the restoration of that which makes this country exceptional.

Come to think of it, where would China be were America non-existent? How would this gigantic communist Tick survive without a host such as America providing it nutrition? Talk about enemies from without and within. Capitalism needs to start kicking some ass and soon. That's who I'll be voting for: the guy/gal who unleashes the private sector on both of our enemies- inside and out. I'd serve up a big serving of unshared sacrifice on these bastards if I were president.
