The Mexican president in the Dock? Well, not yet, but charges of “crimes against humanity” were filed last Friday in the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands against President Felipe Calderón, the Secretaries of Mexico’s Army, Navy, and Public Safety, and notorious drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. The International Criminal Court (denhaag.nl)The charges were filed by human rights lawyer Netzaí Sandoval, supported by 23,000 citizen signatures, and allege, among other things, that the Mexican state bears direct responsibility for crimes committed by federal agents in the context of the war against organized crime. The charges detail 470 cases of state-committed crimes, including rape by soldiers, enslavement of undocumented migrants by government functionaries (often in collaboration with criminal groups), extrajudicial executions, forced disappearances and torture used to extract confessions. The complaint, not surprisingly, alleges far greater crimes committed by Chapo Guzmán and his Sinaloa Cartel.

In Tijuana, $15 million -- thought to belong to the Sinaloa Cartel -- was confiscated from a safe house. Six kilos of cocaine and four weapons were also found during the army raid, although no arrests were made.

I heard a few days ago that the PRI party which ruled Mexico for many decades, was outvoted for the past 12 years by the PAN (means bread) party. PRI was supposed to be the “people’s” party, and PAN the afluent people’s party. Now it is being said the PRI might make a comeback because of the increase in drug crime this past decade. Apparently higher ups in PAN are suspected of supporting the cartels.

Seal the border, cease allowing ANY Mex. immigration, let them sort it out without any U.S. funds, legal or otherwise.

That cracks me up. Not you, but the source of where you read that - totally opposite. PRI the “people’s party” ?? No, PRI were the artistocrat’s party - totally taking care of the wealthy and corrupt politicians and their friends. They had a stranglehold on power until the people got sick of it and voted in the PAN (doesn’t mean bread - forget what it stands for - ‘pan’ means bread). The PAN is more conservative (relatively speaking). But Mexico is so corrupt that even they had problems. Plus the PRI stopped any real reform happening in Congress with Vicente Fox (which turns out to be real ‘libertarian’ in his post-President views).

Calderon has tried to fight the cartels but it is sickening how corrupt it is down there. And the stupid Mexican people want to blame him for fighting instead of blaming the cartels. Plus they are too arrogant, proud and resentful to bring in the US in a serious way like we helped in Colombia.

So if the PRI gets in again, kind of like our Demoncrats here - bad for a long time. The cartels will have their way.

When I said the “people’s” party, I meant, kind of like the Democrats. I went to school in Mexico about 50 years ago, and then the PRI was purported to be the revolution’s party. PAN was portray as the business elite party. PAN stands for Partido de Accion Nacional, or something like that, but it also is the word for bread, which probably was deliberate. PRI is something like Partido de la Revolucion Institucionado. During the many years when it was in power, it was agreed the liberal wing would have the president for a term, and then the conservative wing would have the presidency. That is how they maintained power.
