Boehner to Side with Dems to Avert Government Shutdown
Fox Nation ^ | December 01, 2011 | Chad Pergram, Fox News

Another potential government shutdown could loom if Congress isn’t able to scramble soon and cobble together a big omnibus spending bill to keep the government open past Dec. 16.

The current stopgap measure expires then. And only three of the 12 annual spending bills which run the federal government have been approved and signed into law.

That means House and Senate appropriators are putting together a massive, omnibus spending bill which they hope to have prepared by Dec. 15. This would not be an interim bill, better known in Capitol Hill-ese as a Continuing Resolution, or CR, which funds government in increments while the regular appropriations bills are negotiated.

This would simply allocate money for the remainder of currently unfunded government programs through Sept. 30, 2012. I am told that House appropriators are resistent to attaching any extraneous issues to this omnibus bill … such as unemployment insurance (UI), a payroll tax holiday, the alternative minimum tax (AMT) or the “doc fix” for Medicare.

What is significant here is that House Speaker John Boehner and GOP appropriators are turning their attention away from conservative Republicans who want to cut spending more...

(Politically) like her or not (I Don’t) - I don’t recall her selling her party short or ‘giving’ in to the opposition.

If nothing else, they have togetherness.

R’s castigate a “D” and they basically circle the wagons.

D’s castigate an “R”, the R’s look for more R’s to throw under the bus.

Goes back to the 50s when the ‘word’ was

The House passes budgets, the Senate doesn’t

So of course the GOP leaders cave, again and again and again

"our"? Don't know about you, I am an independent conservative with a hankerin' for the constitution. That puts me at odds with all democrats, and most republicans.

That is the sad truth.

Conference chairman is not the leadership, army and delay were in the leadership, conference chairman has no more authority than a committee chairman. The vote on his illegal and unethical dealings was all that was needed. Bob Livingston was the man that announced a run for speaker against newt the worm.

And now, with Cain having been run out of the race by the establishment on both R and D sides, the RINOS have no need to put up a false front.

Cain haters, I hope you are happy now.

Coyote, I’ve done some pretty deep soul-searching lately and I’ve come to believe the Republicans are no better than the Demons.....I truly thing that there is not one politician who’s looking out for me and my family. The Pubs are a disgrace, the Demons have ALWAYS been a disgrace and I wouldn’t have thought this 6 months ago but a 3rd party, namely strong Conservative/Constitutionalist in it’s politics may be the biggest upset to come down the political pike in a long time. People are FED UP with BOTH parties!

I refuse to believe that. Just another scare tatic by the corrupt press, the Demons and the establishment/RINO Republicans. I’m sick to death of hearing that. When you get people who are sick of the WHOLE SHEBANG and BOTH parties that’s a recipe for a 3rd party to be successful.

In the summer of 1997 several House Republicans, who saw Gingrich's public image as a liability, attempted to replace him as Speaker. The attempted "coup" began July 9 with a meeting of Republican conference chairman John Boehner of Ohio and Republican leadership chairman Bill Paxon of New York.

According to their plan, House Majority Leader Dick Armey, House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, Boehner and Paxon were to present Gingrich with an ultimatum: resign, or be voted out. However, Armey balked at the proposal to make Paxon the new Speaker, and told his chief of staff to warn Gingrich about the attempted coup.

On July 11, Gingrich met with senior Republican leadership to assess the situation. He explained that under no circumstance would he step down. He wasn't a quitter...If he was voted out, there would be a new election for Speaker, which would allow for the possibility that Democrats—along with dissenting Republicans—would vote in Dick Gephardt as Speaker.

On July 16, Paxon offered to resign his post, feeling that he had not handled the situation correctly, as the only member of the leadership who had been appointed to his position—by Gingrich—instead of elected.

Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term, including claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes.

Following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee Gingrich was sanctioned US$300,000. Gingrich acknowledged in January 1997 that "In my name and over my signature, inaccurate, incomplete and unreliable statements were given to the committee". The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules.

Special Counsel James M. Cole concluded that Gingrich violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him. The full committee panel did not agree whether tax law had been violated and left that issue up to the IRS. In 1999, the IRS cleared the organizations connected with the "Renewing American Civilization" courses under investigation for possible tax violations.

So, in other words, my poor dimwitted friend, he didn't do anything wrong, even though he thought he did and resigned because of it.

Not something a dishonest guy or someone who would hurt the Party would do, I don't think.

But you aren't going to either understand or believe, so this can be my going away present to you; politics ain't beanbag and Boehner has the long knife a a scruple deficit worthy of a Roman Senator. Which I think he believes he is.

Facing a rebellion in the Republican caucus, he announced on November 5, 1998 that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. Gingrich made this announcement only a day after being elected to an 11th term from his district. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, “I’m willing to lead but I’m not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is.”

One correction, if we push a third party candidate, then this country surely is lost forever, because zero will be reelected. You can take that silly philosophy and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Has the lesson of Ross Perot not been learned by some on here?

How has the "lesser of two evils" philosophy been working out for ya? You can site one election for the third party philosophy; I can site decades of lesser of two evils philosophy and what it has done to damage the Republic.

I would rather be hot or cold than lukewarm (McCain, Romney, Newt). Better to have Obama and the Democrats in full control of the collapse than to have it look like it was inevitable and nothing could stop it. You put a RINO in office, then people think conservatism would not have saved it, since they will be told the RINO was conservative.

So? What’s new?

Boehner is only doing what RINOs do.

It’s called COMPROMISE....the poison that kills leaders and feeds weaklings.

Two years after Ross Perot got 19% of the vote we got a congress committed to a balanced budget. We should be so lucky this time.
