Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Monday clarified that he supports extending the payroll tax cut, opening him up to charges of flip-flopping from Democrats.

"I would like to see the payroll tax cut extended just because I know that working families are really feeling the pinch right now -- middle-class Americans are having a hard time," Romney told conservative talk radio host Michael Medved

If it's a flip-flop, at least Romney's flipping in the right direction on this issue. My family and I need that $1000 to save for our needs (retirement included) on our own. I earned the money, it belongs to me not Obama, Pelosi, Reid, or Boehner -- and I don't want it grabbed out of my paycheck by the federal government to go into a Ponzi Scheme.

The article says Newt is taking the same position - don’t raise the tax back up.

Maybe so. The government’s accounting is bogus and politicians are scam artists.

So I have to look out for myself and my family. All I know is that the money in my paycheck belongs to me - the politicians didn’t earn it, I did. The less of it the government swipes, the more my family and I have to save for ourselves.

You are free to send in more of your own money, if you’re concerned about the state of the government’s finances and want to help out, instead of using the money for your family’s needs. Be my guest. Forgive me if I’m not feeling as generous as you toward the federal government and its “trust” funds.

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

HAHAHA....WillIII....I opted out of SS about 18 years ago....knew it was a scam and my life’s energy was better focused on helping my husband earn a living...rather than working at a job where I paid SS and MORE taxes for the privilege of a job. I am NOT suggesting we give more $$ to gov’t AT ALL...just stating a fact.

I don't have a problem if the people want to defund social security and end it for future recipients. If the taxes aren't paid, the program must end, you can't have it both ways. This idea that a severely underfunded program can have it's revenue cut and still be viable is crazy.
