The Library of Congress and Twitter have signed an agreement that will see an archive of every public Tweet ever sent handed over to the library's repository of historical documents.

"We have an agreement with Twitter where they have a bunch of servers with their historic archive of tweets, everything that was sent out and declared to be public," said Bill Lefurgy, the digital initiatives program manager at the library's national digital information infrastructure and preservation program. "The archives don't contain tweets that users have protected, but everything else — billions and billions of tweets — are there."

" Researchers will be able to look at the Twitter archive as a complete set of data, which they could then data-mine for interesting information."

Doesn't Facebook now own Twitter?

Tweets from twits are now “historical documents”? Geeez. This country has fallen a lot further than I thought.

This is what we focus on in 2011.

God help us. Seriously.

There are going to be a lot of embarrassed people in the future when they run for office or go after a good job in the future, and their stupid teenage comments or obscenities come back to haunt them.

Next, EPA will be capturing all farts that have been emitted. Equally valuable.

Yes, sign of the times. I think the same thing will happen with all cell phone text messages, instant messaging and e-mail messages.

NSA has been monitoring telephone conversations for over 20 years (they admit at least those going outside the US). None of this is surprising.

Yes, and probably send us a bill for greenhouse emmissions.

Welcome to the brave new world of Obozo.

I cannot wait until November 2012.

And don’t forget here on FR. Anything posted is indexed through Google. That is how I find old posts that I would like to revisit.

Well, at least the Library of Congress will not be using any public funds on this nonsense ... right ....?

What a farce. The Wiener package will be preserved for all time.

To be stored in servers along with the FR archives...

Maybe scientists can use it as a random number generator.

At the very least Twitter will get a tax deduction. It’s a smart business move on their part.

Technically, all those tweets are copyrighted.

If they do a little bit of “data mining”, like they suggest, what do you think the tweets about Obozo should reveal? hee hee hee

Wonder if they will include the insults I have had from the Obots? Even their threats to have Big Siss come and check me out and send me off to a “camp”. Obots are vile creatures.

And whether the elimination of my tweets by the Obots will still show? They have either been inside jobs or the system was long ago hacked by the Obozo supporters (net roots).

The only reason I signed up with Twitter was to get news feed out of Iran and later Honduras. Bypassing the MSM news filter system.

The difference is that these are public messages.

Which brings up a depressing point, a guy I know about a year ago was wanting me to get involved with a project to archive these very same messages and host them on something like Archive.org. I didn't think there'd be any money in it even with advertising, and I thought there would be legal issues.
