A MEMBER of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee has said the military is to practise its ability to close the Gulf to shipping at the narrow Strait of Hormuz, the most important oil transit channel in the world.

Parviz Sarvari told student news agency ISNA yesterday: “Soon we will hold a military manoeuvre on how to close the Strait of Hormuz. If the world wants to make the region insecure, we will make the world insecure.”

Iran’s military declined to comment on the claim.

Iran’s energy minister told Al-Jazeera television last month that Tehran could use oil as a political tool in the event of any future conflict.

Their intent is to introduce worldwide chaos and carnage, and then their Big Imam will come out and they will take over what’s left of the world.

Sort of a king of the ash-heap concept.

The flaw in their plan is that they failed to get the ok from the God of Israel.

I’m guessing mine layers. If an Iranian mine layer approaches the strait, it will quickly become an ex-mine layer.

Watched a Chuck Norris movie last night called “HitMan”. Made in ‘91.One of the group of gangsters were Iranian. When an opposing group of Italian gangsters captured one of the Iranians and took him to a meat packaging center to interogate him. They chained him and tied him up and was force feeding him pork guts, trying to get him to talk while saying some very unpleasant things to him.

Could Congress still issue a letter of marque and reprisal, getting around that pesky commander in chief?

Isn’t this like having a football practice before the Super Bowl and inviting cameras in?

It's a big deal, but not for the reasons the Iranians are saying.

I doubt they could actually do it. Any attempt to do so would result in the prompt destruction of their limited navy. However, it does accomplish two things:

It sends the price of oil higher with escalated tensions in the region. Also, it exposes our dependence on foreign suppliers (even if the major contributors are neighbors). We need an energy policy to take this potential weapon away from those who may wield it.

You mean like more pipelines and drilling in North America?

A true fact that many not know is that Iran’s ships are like tin cans.

Go ahead block the Straits of Hormuz and the U.S. Military will destroy your little tin can ships in about 6 hours...

This is why idle threats from Iran that really has absolutely no military power at all will lose. The full force of the U.S. Military has the ability to sink their ships and then they can all go back home crying to the 72 virgins that they thought they would meet when in fact they will simply burn in hell...
