Newt's Past and Future Leadership
Townhall.com ^ | 12/14/2011 | Tony Blankley

The GOP primary voters reflect this helter-skelter search for leadership. And I predict that when the general electorate is engaged in the general election campaign next year, the independents and some Democrats will reflect the same desperate confusion and search for the right kind of leadership for these treacherous times. But what kind of candidate is most likely to make sense of the terrible events and forces that weigh down our country; be capable of vividly describing our plight and what needs to be done; and convince the public that he or she has the intelligence, courage, experience and sheer willful capacity to force events favorably to America's historic interests and needs?

As I have chosen to phrase that question, the question answers itself. It is the GOP candidate currently at the top of the polls -- my former boss, Newt Gingrich

Don't hear much from Tony these days, but he's given some food for thought about the latest attachs on Newt.

Not sure if I'm sold on him as a candidate yet--and I'm certainly not part of the so-called GOP establishment--but he presents the case for Newt well by giving some historical perspective.

I’m still trying to figure out what Ron Paul or Mitt Romney EVER did for the Conservative movement in this country compared to Newt Gingrich.. Gingrich did what they could have never done and what they never would have attempted

I remember those years well. While I would really like to have a reincarnation of Reagan, I will willingly vote for Newt should he get the nomination.

You go to war with the army and leaders you have. So far, Newt’s been a great candidate in spite of all that “baggage”.

This is the Newt I support! He is a giant of sorts, and voters in this age of The Inquiror level of interest may be too ignorant of his historic impact to even appreciate his intellegence and his style. As for Tony Blankley, he has always been a stalwart conservative and certainly knows well of whom he speaks. We will be hearing more from Tony as Newt comes more and more under fire from his rather desperate challengers.

It was to be expected that Newt’s numbers would come out of the stratosphere range once the smear assaults got under way, but there is something comforting about Newt’s take no prisoners approach to the facts and to the opponents.
