Romney makes appeal to middle class voters (opposes "tax cuts for the rich" & big spending cuts)
The Boston Globe ^ | 12-18-2011 | Matt Viser

Mitt Romney, making a direct appeal to middle class voters, said this morning that he would be a president who would protect average Americans – a statement that is sure to be challenged by Democrats and will become a major theme in the general election if Romney wins the nomination.

“The people who have been hurt in the Obama economy are not the wealthy, the wealthy are doing just fine,” Romney said this morning on Fox News Sunday. “The people that have been hurt are people in the middle class.”

In a wide-ranging interview with Chris Wallace – his first Sunday morning program appearance in nearly two years – Romney addressed health care in Massachusetts, a photo of himself as a business executive with money all around him, and his emotions when his wife was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Tax and budget policy has been a dominant theme in Washington this year, with both parties clashing over their competing visions for resuscitating the economy and curbing the country’s debt. Some have challenged Romney’s proposals for not going far enough – either in cutting taxes or in cutting government spending.

Romney said this morning that he opposed the flat tax plans that have been offered by some in his party, including Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry, because they would provide “dramatic reductions” in taxes for the wealthy.

Mitt opposes "tax cuts for the rich," and then blasts the flat tax idea. Opposes big cuts in Government spending.

It's going to be so much fun watching a GOP nominee give speeches at OWS rallies, isn't it?

So Romney is going to jump on the class warfare bandwagon plus he can’t consider the flat tax? Well, another one bites the dust.

Mitt. You’re now tossed under my bus together with Ron Paul. Hope you enjoy his company. Need an exam?

That fact alone speaks volumes.

Let the Newt haters try to spin this into a “Mitt is more conservative than Newt” thread.

Frigging degenerate class warrior.

This election is a sham, a ruse.

Romney said that he was for an individual mandate, and continues to say that Paul Ryan is too extreme.

Romney will likely nominate Huntsman, Collins, Snowe, or Graham for VP if he wins the nomination.

“Romney will likely nominate Huntsman, Collins, Snowe, or Graham for VP if he wins the nomination.”

I disagree. He will look for someone whose conservative paper credentials look good, but whose character will be as obligingly malleable as his own. If he gets that far.

I watched Mitt this morning. His pretty much happy with America just the way it is. He will lower the capital gains tax to zero for people making less than $200,000. You know, the ones who don’t create jobs. No tax break for the wealty who do create jobs. And of course he can’t think of one agency that needs to go. He will have to study on it for awhile. And we need regulation of course. If this guy gets elected stick a fork in us.

What is Romney thinking? He can’t possibly out-do Obama when it comes to class warfare and growing the government ... why even try to play on that field?

I doubt it. I still think his running mate will be a classical RINO. The establishment will NOT allow someone like Palin, Cain, Ryan, or Rubio, or any other candidate perceived to be part of the “tea party” on to the ticket. (They are still mad that McCain picked Palin, they wanted Jeb Bush).

Liberman and Jeb Bush have also been batted around as a Romney VP possibility.

Mitt is an idiot. He has no clue what it means to be a conservative. He is a fake.

I actually agree with Psalm here. Mitt is friends with Jim DeMint, and there has been a longstanding whispering campaign that Rove believes DeMint can be Romney’s Palin.

I expect Romney would pick someone VERY Conservative so that he can go off the left end of the earth if he needs to in order to win the General.

My thoughts exactly.

This election looks like it's going to be a contests between two ghosts, one beige, one gray flannel.
