That is exactly my point.

Kotka, Finland, is not ‘along the way’ from either Germany or Great Britain to S. Korea — unless they were planning on taking a land route through St. Petersburg, to the Urals and south to Mongolia, which would be difficult for a cargo ship.

Circuitous Route is best to describe most seagoing cargo shipping.

Shipped a new Ford Raptor to Chile and it stopped at probably 10 ports before getting to Valparaiso and then the ship went on to South Korea.
