N. Korea: 'He couldn't speak English, didn't pass any exams (but more equal than others)

'He couldn't speak English, didn't pass any exams and was obsessed with basketball and computer games': Kim Jong Un's Swiss school days revealed

By Allan Hall

Last updated at 4:14 PM on 22nd December 2011

He is the heir poised to become the next leader of rogue state North Korea.

But a probe into the school days of Kim Jong Un - youngest son of dictator Kim Jong Il - proves he is little more than an academic failure who squandered his education playing computer games and basketball.

/snip

But the signs are not good. Despite having thousands of pounds lavished on his education at a top private school in Switzerland, he didn't leave with even the equivalent of a single GCSE.

When he was just 15 his father took him out of the costly International School Of Berne, where fees now cost around £16,000 a year. He moved him to a nearby state school to save money but he was quickly put in the lower tier in class.

/snip

'He was good in maths. That sounds like he was a nerd - but he wasn't. He wasn't so hot in other subjects. I suppose in hindsight we could have nicknamed him Dim Jong-un. One day he just disappeared.'

/snip

'He never joined in. He looked down at his shoes all the time and fidgeted, never seemed easy. He was dipping into a bag from Loeb - that's the fanciest delicatessen in Berne, the kind of place where you can spend 100 euros on a couple of salads.

'And at that moment I thought of George Orwell's novel Animal Farm where, truly, some are more equal than others.'

A dimwit, even after all of the attempted education?

Sounds like he’s in good company for ‘leader’ of a country, and he might be even better qualified than Obama was to lead any country.

Shouldn’t he be disqualified, since his father wasn’t a native-born North Korean (born in the Soviet Union)? Where’s the Birth Certificate?

“It’s going to be interesting watching what will come out of NK ...”

I think “frightening” would be more appropriate than “interesting”.

What they reported in this article is similar to the story about his dad back while he was at school in East Germany. Not really into study, wasting tuition. During his youth, he was said to drive around Pyongyang on a fancy motorcycle.

These things won't determine how he would fare as a dictator, even though I suspect he would be a failure as a dictator as well. My take so far is that he is ruthless but not cunning enough.

” He couldn’t speak English, didn’t pass any exams and was obsessed with basketball and computer games “

Hmmm... Could also describe two-thirds of the Basketball ‘Scholarship’ recipients at any big-name US University....

I like the description of him as a “Nancy Boy”.

I suppose in hindsight we could have nicknamed him Dim Jong-un.

Must remember that for future use.

So this guy is 27 and only semi-educated and with f all self-discipline? Imagine some of the dumb, angry blowhards that you might have met on an internet messageboard, possibly even this, and then imagine them in charge of a nuclear-armed nation. Terrifying.

Just another dumbed down impetuous lil communist uneducated cretin of the marxist left. He’s perfect for North Korea leadership. We have our own lil marxist cretin proteges also coming out of public education here in the USSA too.

Don’t have to imagine - we’ve got one of our own to watch..

They tend to lash out on everybody and ultimately self-distruct. It seems that could be what we are up against. Not a pleasant prospect.

Well I’m thinking of Kim Jong-Il’s kid. I’m thinking the uncle will be telling him what to do/say. But then I also read where the kid is a slug. I believe the military will eventually take control and if people thought that Kim was bad .....

Kim Jong Un being left North Korea by his dad would be like your dad giving you a car, after he’s crashed it into a tree, with a dead whore in the back seat and a bag of coke in the glove compartment.

some comments:

Gee. Sounds like obama. Except Un has people who remember him.

Thick, uneducated, arrogant... he could be a Labour MP!

Let’s give the new-guy a chance! - just because he’s smarter than Obama doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll do a bad job.
