Raleigh going after unpaid parking tickets
Updated: 6:41 p.m. Wednesday

Raleigh, N.C. — Hundreds of area residents are getting mail from Raleigh officials this week, but it's not holiday greetings.

The city sent 4,000 letters Monday to people who have unpaid parking citations, and officials said more mailings are planned.

The move is part of a new collection method approved last spring by the City Council.

Effective Dec. 15, the city can intercept the state income tax refund of anyone with more than $50 in unpaid parking citations that are more than six months delinquent in order to pay off the bill.

People will be given a 30-day notice before the city takes action to give them one final shot at paying off their debt and avoid having their tax refund intercepted, officials said.

Where I am, you can’t renew your drivers without having paid your fines.

It works.

See, yet another reason not to loan the feds money interest free for a year. Everyone thinks they have the right to claim it.

What I especially love are the people who, after loaning the feds money for free for a year, pay loan shark rates to H&R Block or the like to get it back a week sooner. [facepalm] They could have had it back a YEAR sooner, for FREE, not run the risk of the kind of crap in this article, AND not been part of supporting a semi-criminal enterprise. Oxygen thieves.

Yep, they're running low on tax funds, for their lottery style government retirement pensions.

They probably need to raise state taxes too.

And charge them a late fees with interest after confiscating their tax refunds.

Obama had hundreds of dollars in unpaid parking tickets in Cambridge, MA. They were unpaid for years. Someone paid them just before he ran for president.

“See, yet another reason not to loan the feds money interest free for a year. Everyone thinks they have the right to claim it.”

You wonder why the RATs keep getting re-elected when morons think that a “tax refund” is like found money! You should always arrange to owe them. Makes crap like this ineffective. Starve the beast any way that you can.

Here in Contra Costa County, California, we just received a flyer asking us to support a property tax add on for the next ten years for “clean water.” Twenty-one “agencies” are asking for this money to do the job we thought they were already being paid to do. The real issue here is getting money to cover their unfunded pension liability. Here in the east county they expect to take in $9 million a year if they can get the fool voters to approve their scheme! Oh and one of the “agencies,” the Sanitary District has already announced that they are hiking annual sewer fees ten per cent each of the next two years to cover unfunded pension costs. They are all scared that their “deals” are going to go away before the get old enough to take them.

What really kills me are people who have extra withholdings taken from their pay so they can "get money back."

Wonder when the DOJ will step in and claim this decision will keep black voters away from the polls and reverse it or block it?

Parking tickets are generally the most avoidable penalty there is. In MA they hound you like devil dogs (the original ones, not marines).

I got a parking ticket in Raleigh, on my Jeep one late Saturday night. The problem was, my Jeep was parked in my driveway, 2.5 hours from Raleigh, N.C. The clowns who mailed me the citation not budge on listening to me try to explain. Fortunately for me, the State had issued me a brand-new license plate for my Jeep, which I received 4 weeks after the Citation was issued. The plate had not yet even been stamped when the citation was issued. After spending 4 hours of time on the phone, and getting the state to write a letter, saying that the plate could not have possibly been on my vehicle when they cited me, did they rescind the ticket. No apology... no nothing. Guilty until proven innocent.

Yes, I think that parking tickets should be ignored. The public owns the street, so why should any member of the public have to pay for parking on public roads?

Private lots are another thing altogether, but city streets should never have become revenue zones for the beast.

Well, our politicians and foreign diplomats ignore them all the time. I guess only the tax paying peons are expected to pay up, to help fund the ever growing government.

You don’t understand.
The revenues are so good, they have to raise the rates so they can HIRE more people to write more tickets, which justifies raising the rates, so they can pay for the new people.

Ayn Rand and Joseph Heller (among a select few others) had this country ‘figured out’ years ago.
To think we used to ‘laugh’ at Yogi and Casey for their isms...

Like the 50’s/60’s Marine used to say “Around here there is no Black, Brown, Yellow or White. Everyone is GREEN!
Now, all you Green SOB’s get on the bus, the dark green in the back and the light green in front”.....
